Vote!

If you don't know about today's Special Because We Make It Special Election, it's not my fault. Polls are open from 7 AM to 7 PM, and the evil tort reform amendment Prop 12 is the big issue. You know what to do, so go forth and do it.

UPDATE: I've already gotten two phone calls reminding me to vote against Prop 12, one a recording from Sen. Mario Gallegos, the other a live person with Save Texas Courts. Save your dime, folks - I've already voted!

UPDATE: With 4764 of 6701 precincts counted, passage of Prop 12 is leading 562,790 to 531,285, or 51.44% to 48.56%. The early vote was nearly 57-43 in favor of Prop 12; the tally today has shaved nearly 25,000 votes off the lead. There's still hope! You can follow the result here.

Turn out is pretty good so far at my poll. The high school parking lot had many cars for a Saturday at 11:00 AM. A couple of people carried "No on 12" signs outside. The election board official said early voter turn out was also high. The only way Prop 12 can be defeated is if people bother to show up. Maybe they are.

I'm mildly encouraged at the moment about our chances-- wouldn't it be great to go into the third Special Session on redistricting with Perry getting handed yet another defeat? I'm dreaming till the polls close...

I am not a Texan; I just found out about your Prop. 12 this evening on the news. I hope it passes... We need more reforms like that throughout our country.

I got three calls on Friday and two on Saturday, including a message from Anita Perry.

By the end of the sequence, I was so pissed off, I probably would have voted against an amendment to enable the legislature to outlaw kicking puppies.
