All righty, I have installed and enabled Jay Allen's MT Blacklist. It was easy to install and helped me find and kill an old piece of spam, so I'm a happy blogger. If for some reason you encounter any problems posting a comment now, please please please send me a note ASAP to kuff - at - offthekuff dot com and I will investigate it. Please if possible send me the text of the comment you tried to enter and the message you saw when you hit Submit. I'm adding this info to the Blog Policies page for future reference.
You MT bloggers out there, get yourself upgraded and give this thing a try. I know I spent way too much time and effort cleaning up after comment spammers. I have high hopes I'll never have to do it again.
Posted by Charles Kuffner on November 13, 2003 to Administrivia | TrackBackI thought I'd give you a hand and test out your MT-Blacklist gadget by posting a comment. I tried to install MT-B but I couldn't get the prerequisite Storable module to compile on my crusty old Perl 5.6 install.

What I found was that I was willing to hack mt-blacklist to add the "no duplicate comments" and "no duplicate trackbacks" hacks that I wasn't willing to hack mt itself to get.
Posted by: Michael on November 14, 2003 9:00 AMMT-B no longer requires Storable? Last time I talked with Jay, he said all MT Plugins required Storable. I asked him to consider creating a version that had all its modules internal like the MT-libs version (that's what I run) so I guess he did it. Yay!
I'm using MacOS X 10.2.8 on my MT server, its Perl does not ship with Storable. I figured I'd wait and upgrade to 10.3 before I messed with Perl modules again. Panther ships with Perl v5.8.1-RC3-multithreaded, which I expect will have a whole packet of new problems. I hate Perl.
