I'm about to take my first trip on Houston's light rail line. I'll post a report, plus the reason for that trip, later today. I should note that I wouldn't have gotten to see the fountain even if it were operational, since I'm not going quite as far as downtown. Maybe next time.

You forgot to mention the other amenities of the NYC subway. These include
- The rats running under the tracks.
- The leaking roofs in the tunnels
- The trains stopping at a station for 15 minutes due to "schedule adjustment".
- The fine aroma of the homeless person begging for "spare change" in your car (or in some cases, the next car). It can be blocked, however, by the eau de funk of the station itself (Penn Station on the 1/9 line comes to mind).
- The heat working in the summer, and the air conditing in the winter.
For a true NYC subway experience, visit the uptown 4,5,6 platform in Grand Central in the middle of summer. You will experience the true meaning of the word "hell".
