A group of Texas writers, musicians, artists, and other interested people are raising some money to run a full-page NYT ad with the aim of letting people know that President Bush does not speak for everyone in Texas. You can see the ad here, the full list of participants here, and you can fill out this form if you'd like to add your name to the project and the ad. I can't say this is the best use of your discretionary political money, but spreading the idea that Bush isn't as beloved back home as one might think does have its merit. Check it out. Via Sarah.

I mean, for this group of interested Texans to ASSUME they're so closeminded they think that President Bush speaks for all of Texas.... that's an outrage!
It truly is an affluent society. Glad folks have money to throw around frivolously in this "worst economy since the Great Depression."

Some people call you the elites; I call you my base." Now there's affluence for you. And yes, Bush is the prime political retailer for the affluent. Meanwhile, IIRC, Bush is the first president since Hoover to lose over a million jobs in the span of a term. Affluence for the rest of us? don't make me laugh! There is no affluence, outside the Bush Pioneers and of course Cheney's Halliburton cohort.
Those of us in ordinary income brackets... i.e., most of us who are Democrats... will not be contributing to this ad, because, as Charles says, it's an ineffective use of our money. We may be poor, kevin, but we're not stupid. More fool you if you believe otherwise.
Maybe, just maybe, we dig deep for serious political contributions, even if it hurts us financially, because we perceive Bush and especially his handlers as the single most destructive force in American government in our lifetimes (and trust me, mine is longer than yours). Affluence, my (two Nixonian expletives deleted)!
