A good start

Rice 10, UH 7. Sweeeet. Shoulda been a shutout, but the Rice secondary finally got burned on the last play of the game for UH. Best defensive effort I've seen in a long time, and given how effective UH was at stopping the Rice option, it was needed. Way to go, Owls!

If any of you were at that game, those were my dulcet tones you heard over the PA during the MOB pregame and halftime show. I've now done everything there is to do in the MOB - I've conducted, I've show-assistanted, and now I've narrated the halftime show.

Oh, and as noted in the game writeup on Owlzone:

Now all three rivalry trophies (Bayou Bucket, Bayou Cup and Silver Glove) belong to the Owls

Good luck with that master plan to get invited into the Big XII, Dave Maggard.

"I've show-assistanted,"

I didn't know show-assistanted was a word. I'll have to try to play "assistanted" next time I get a chance to during a game of Scrabble. :-)

Congrats on your first announcing gig. It's a rush, isn't it?

In news from the West Coast, I have a Stanford Band uniform, but they're trying to force me to learn the tuba instead of show-assistanting. We'll see how this develops.

Does Rice play Texas anymore?

Posted by: Steve Smith on September 6, 2004 12:00 PM

William - It's a word if I say it's a word. :-)

Dave - It sure was a rush. And my God, the PA booth at Reliant Stadium is high up in the sky.

Steve - Yes, Rice is in Year 2 of a six-year game contract with UT. They played in Houston last year, and the next two games (Sept 25 this year) are in Austin.

That's good enough for me. Now, if W had said it... :-)

Script! MP3! I wanna hear/see your dulcet tones!

Sigh. I guess it's a good thing I'm not too deeply emotional about UH games (silly undergrads). I'm planning on mostly ignoring football since I'd only care about UT anyways, and I've been burned too many times by Mack Brown.

In other news Texas State beat Angelo State. My sister is going to school there in San Marcos and so here's my mandatory Bobcat-Brother cheer!

Are you the announcer now, or just temporarily?

Posted by: Rich on September 7, 2004 9:22 AM

Rich - This was a one-shot. The script was done in the style of noir private eye movies, and I had a suitable voice for it.

Michael - The script isn't posted yet, but when it is it will be here. I'll see what kind of recordings may be available.
