Disturbing trends in online polls

I don't know how long this will be up, but there's a poll on the Click2Houston.com website that says "Should it be illegal to live together in a sexual relationship when not legally married?" I can only wonder how much of my readership would have a record if this law were in effect.

What I want to know is what in the world prompted them to ask this question? Is there a worse bill than HB16 lurking in the Lege that I don't yet know about? Is this connected to a news story that I missed? I didn't see any obvious related links on their page.

On the plus side, "no" was winning by 79% to 21% when I checked it. That's still way too many people who want the government in other people's bedrooms, though.

Thanks to Charles M for the tip.

I thought Click2Houston was trying to give Chuck Rosenthal another chance at the Supreme Court.

Hey Chuck -

You're way too kind to these mouth breathers. As a former citizen of Houston, I felt comfortable enough to send them a quick missive - I'm sure it could have been better, but the idea that such an idea could be stuck on their board without a news story ... AAARRRGGHHH!!!!

If you don't mind, I'll include my note to them:

Did I fall asleep and wake up in 1952? What kind of stupid question is this? --

"Should it be illegal to live together in a sexual relationship when not legally married?"

This shouldn't even be a question on your board. What sort of Dark Ages are you trying to bring about anyway?

I am a strong believer in marriage (17 years with my lovely wife), but I do not presume to tell others how to lead their personal lives - much less hope for some sort of legislative "sex police state." Is the author of the question ready to have someone come over and inspect their relationship to make sure it measures up to some new legislative standard?

Get real, you morons. I'm happy I moved from Houston and got away from crappy "news" stations such as yourselves. You give journalism a bad name.

Thanks for letting me vent, Chuck -

The accused stood mute and a judge ordered a plea of nolo contendere entered into the record.

I remember when Channel 2 was a decent news station. This is just sad.
