HD134 and the Houston GLBT Political Caucus

Ryan Goodland gives a behind the scenes look at how the Houston GLBT Political Caucus (HGLBTPC) mobilized voters in Montrose to help propel Ellen Cohen to her victory over Martha Wong this week. I can't wait to see the precinct data so I can compare turnout in the Montrose boxes to that of 2002 (yes, that's another to-do list item). Anyway, check out Ryan's account.

The reference to Debra Danburg is interesting.

I don't know that there's much separation between Cohen and Danburg on issues, although Cohen certainly ran a nice campaign and packaged herself better than Danburg did in her losing effort against Wong.

I wonder if Danburg would have won this time around against Wong. What do you think?

I was for a brief moment standing next to Danburg at Cohen's victory party on Tuesday. I thought about asking her how she felt at that moment, but didn't have the opportunity. Alas.

I think Danburg would have had a much better chance of winning this year, in this environment, than in 2002. But I don't know that anyone could have matched what Cohen did. She ran an aggressive and near flawless campaign, and the size of her win is a testament to that.
