The USS Meredith Victory

I'll be scaling back on posting for a day or two (there's some kind of holiday coming up). In the spirit of that holiday, read about the USS Meredith Victory, which rescued 14,000 Korean War refugees on December 22, 1950. More information is here, including a page of photos. That page sadly lacks any captions, but you can see from this picture what it was like on board. I'd never heard anything about this great story before.

Thanks to my dad for the link.

Thanks for the great links.
I am making a documentary about the Meredith Victory and its miraculous voyage.

If you have any other links or contacts that would help me with my film, please let me know.

I have a photo of the USS Meredith on "the ways" moments before she was launched. She was named after my grandfathers brother, Edwin T Meredith who was the sec. of. ag. under woodrow wilson. I never met him as he died before I was born. Its yours if you would like it...

My father, Lindy Markham, was abord the Meredith Victory for only a short time - July 25 1945 - October 2nd 1945 from LA to San Fran. Anyone else on this ship at this time?
