Jon Matthews update

This is the first update I've seen on radio talk show host Jon Matthews' situation since the original story appeared.

RICHMOND -- Radio talk show host Jon Matthews appeared before a Fort Bend County grand jury Tuesday less than a week after the Sugar Land Police Department completed an investigation concerning him.

Matthews, 59, was the subject of a criminal investigation launched by police after they received an allegation about Matthews. Police have not publicly discussed the nature of that allegation.

After Matthews left the grand jury room, neither he nor his attorney, Stephen Doggett, would comment on the case. He appeared before the panel for about 90 minutes.

Afterward, the grand jury took a break and then Matthews' wife, Carolyn, spent about 40 minutes in the grand jury room.

Fort Bend County District Attorney John Healey said he could not discuss what happened during the hearing. Healey and four assistant prosecutors were in the room for most of Matthews' appearance.

The Fort Bend County grand jury seals indictments when the defendant is not in custody, so it was not immediately known if the grand jury issued an indictment.

Marshall Slot, a Sugar Land officer who worked the case, also appeared before the grand jury Tuesday.

The investigation is centered on an allegation made recently by a community member, police spokeswoman Pat Whitty said two weeks ago.

The Houston Chronicle requested a copy of the police report under the Texas Public Information Act. Sugar Land city officials want to keep the report confidential and have asked the Texas attorney general for a ruling on the matter.

During the investigation, Matthews has been off the air.

One way or another, we should know more soon.

UPDATE: This is not a forum for discussing the fate of Jon Matthews. Please take that discussion elsewhere. Thank you.

Looks like he's been indicted for indecency with a child and has resigned from the station. How sad and disappointing. http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/news/111203_local_matthews.html

Yeah, the Chronicle has the story today, too. We'll see what happens.

Good for that "Holier Than Thou" hypocrite !!!

If you ever bought into his B*** Sh*t, I feel sorry for you.

I WORKED WITH JON FOR 5 YEARS IN THE EARLY 80'S AT A RADIO STATION SOME VETERAN HOUSTONIANS WILL REMEMBER, KSRR-97 ROCK.
WE WERE "MOBY & MATTHEWS IN THE MORNING." IT WAS, I'M SURE, A HIGHLIGHT IN BOTH OF OUR CAREERS. IT WAS A VERY GOOD TIME & A VERY FUN WAKE-UP SHOW. WE HAD A BALL DURING THAT TIME.
I WAS IN MY LATE 20'S AND JON WAS IN HIS LATE 30'S. IN THOSE WILD DAYS, IT WAS I THAT COULD HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITH IMPROPER BEHAVIOR IN THE ROCK & ROLL BARS THAT WE PROFESSIONALLY FREQUENTED, NOT JON.
HE WAS WHAT WE CALLED LT. STRAIGHT ARROW. I WAS THE R&R ANIMAL. (ALTHOUGH, CROWDING 50, I'VE GROWN UP QUITE A BIT SINCE THEN.)
WE WERE VERY CLOSE FRIENDS. I KNEW HIM, HIS WIFE AND HIS 2 BOYS VERY WELL.
HE'S ALWAYS CERTAINLY BEEN A CONSERVATIVE SMART ASS. BUT HIS PROPER BEHAVIOR, PERSONAL ACTIONS, AND LOVE OF COUNTRY ARE, IN MY OPINION, ABOVE REPROACH.
UNTIL HS IS PROVEN GUILTY OF THIS CHARGE, I'LL CONTINUE TO THINK IT'S A LUDICRIS ACCUSATION, NOT BASED ON THE TRUTH, AND THAT JON WILL ULTIMATELY BE VINDICATED.
I HOPE THAT HE CAN FIND PEACE IN HIS PERSONAL LIFE & CAREER AFTER THE DUST FROM THIS SETTLES.
I POST THIS IN THE HOPES THAT JON MIGHT SEE IT, AND KNOW THAT I'M STILL HIS FRIEND.

KING CAT DADDY! I'm with you a thousand percent, or a million percent, or whatever, man! I KNOW you're innocent! Old Aryan Dan fired you, I'll bet you a buffalo nickel! He is too much of a "sissy-britches", to use one of old George Wallace's favorite names for people he didn't cotton to, to face a crisis. Goeb, aka Patrick, and his plutocrat buddy Special Edd Hendee and old Uncle Cornpone Mike are just a bunch of pea-brained religious fanatics. I ain't no fan of Bill "Pop off before you think" O'Reilly, but he once said that fundamentalism in any culture is a ticket to tyranny. Amen, peabrain Bill, and amen! Patrick/Goeb is a fanatical fundamentalist Christer (an old term that LBJ once used to describe Foster Dulles). Man, Cat Daddy, I hope you rise up like the Phoenix bird! I hope you see this, Cat Daddy. You were always decent to me and didn't diss me none, and I honor you for that. I think you're the greatest! I think you need to be a bit more open to liberalism, which doesn't have many credible champions these days.

Jon,
Sure do miss YOU onthe radio. Haven't listened to that morning show since you left. I keep you in my prayers and I know you will be vindicated.
This was a political move against you. GOD bless you.....

Posted by: Virginia on December 6, 2003 6:29 AM

I can not and will not believe these accusations have any basis in truth. Jon has too much integrity and belief in personal responsibility to do anything even remotely illegal, much less anything dealing with a child. I agree with Virginia-this was a politically based attack.

My day is not the same without Jon in the morning. I would wake up every morning and put on KSEV first thing. It just isn't the same now. It is my hope that this will all be put to rest and that Jon will come back to KSEV.

Posted by: Peggy on December 11, 2003 7:47 AM

Best of luck to you Jon. I cannot for a second give any credence to these accusations. The truth will come out and your innocence proved.

"Hey Mike". Whatever happened to the concept of innocent until proven guilty. Or does that concept not apply to conservatives, only sniveling liberals?

Posted by: Steve on December 13, 2003 11:29 AM

We have listened to Jon for YEARS.......most recently at AM700 KSEV, but other stations in the past.

Dan Patrick (aka GOEB), is making some decisions that are NOT to our liking....but Hey......he's the boss....:(

We miss Jon and cannot believe for a minute these allegations.....after all, the Grand Jury can indict a "ham sandwich", as he said.

As of today (Dec 15), we only listen to Edd Hendee in the morning, and sometimes the Car Doctor on Saturday.

The latest cut was the Weekend Gardener with Ben Oldag......we love that man and his knowledge.

It's almost as if Dan Patrick Goeb is "wanting to self destruct"......

We're done with KSEV.

Jon, let us know where you are when you come back!

Posted by: Jenny on December 15, 2003 11:13 PM

I have to agree with you Jenny, Jon should be able to explain himself. Dan and the others pretend like it never happened. I heard the court date is in feb. whats up?

Posted by: Todd on December 23, 2003 11:34 PM

I have known Jon for 59 years. I am his brother. Thank you all for your support of him and his family. I believe there is more to this event than meets the eye, and that eventually Jon will be vindicated. Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers. And, thank you, Moby, for your kind words, and for speaking the truth.

Posted by: Doug Matthews on December 28, 2003 4:16 PM

You hang in there, Jon. I don't know how to tell you this, but you have made a lot of political enemies. I was stunned to learn that Ft. Bend County had 4 assistant prosecutors at your Grand Jury. Don't they have one attorney over there who can handle such a minor charge?

I know that you can't say anything, Jon, but my uneducated guess is that you were fooling around (talking, not acting) at some local neighborhood pool party, and someone misunderstood what transpired. I read that a neighbor took the complaint to the D.A., not the parents of the girl.

Jon, you are the only talk show host I know who regularly worked on holidays without any "best of", best of meaning whatever falls out of the cabinet when the door is opened. It was always so good to know that I could depend on Jon Matthews being there for us.

Good luck to you and keep your powder dry.

i, too, miss you jon. I listen to ksev alot but I have not heard one word as to an update or even, a "the lawyers, won't let us discuss' the topic. dan and mike speak so personally as to 'being a family' and 'our listeners' are so impt. well, the silence is like: deafening and 'there is an elephant in the room, but no one is talking about it. you're innocent in my book until proven differently, and the way the lawyers/judges are nowadays, i doubt you get a fair deal! keep the faith and God will carry you through this. God bless your sons/wife. judy h

Jon, our thoughts have been with you and your family during these past weeks - especially the last two when the Season brings such joy to most of us. How I miss you on the radio! I pray God's blessing on you as you go through this trying time, and upon your family who must wait beside you.
Jon, I still turn KSEV on for most of the day but it sure "ain't what it used to be!" We need you back! Hang in there, Friend!
For you gleeful skeptics out there - isn't it funny that the "supposed girl" nor her family came forth?? What happened to the right to face your accuser?

Is there a permant replacment for Jon, or is the pathetic edd hendee still filling in? Is he subbing untill mr. matthews trial is resolved? ksev sure isn't the same and a little openess on what's happening would help. Dan and the rest seem eager to speculate on other news and politics, why the silence? seems a little hypocritical and unfair to mr. matthews.

Posted by: Todd on January 2, 2004 10:15 PM

A political hit, pure and simple. Similar to Rush Limbough. The liberals have found a way to silence the truth.

As in description of Dan Patrick above.

TRUTH ALWAYS PREVAILS BUT THE WAIT CAN OFTEN BRING ANGUISH BEFORE VINDICATION.YOU'RE A MAN OF GREAT CHARACTER AS EVIDENCED BY YOUR UNWAIVERING DEFENSE OF OUR COUNTRYS' FOUNDING PRINCIPLES. SHAME ON DAN PATRICK FOR NOT ABIDING YOU PUBLICLY, HE NEVER IMPRESSED ME AS BEING ANYTHING OTHER THAN A PUNK ANYWAY. Jon -

Like others have said on this thread, I have every confidence in you. I hope that all your legal troubles are resolved in your favor and that you're back on the air soon.

Haven't been able to listen to you much in the last few years. Out here in Los Angeles, the local talk station recently played as bumper music the same ZZ Topp song you always play. I automatically thought "It's FRIDAY!" Unfortunately it was only Wednesday - you've got me well trained, no matter how long it's been since I was able to listen daily!

What was jon thinking?
The indictment reads that the act had been committed intentionally to "arouse and gratify" the defendant.

According to http://www.herald-coaster.com/articles/2003/11/14/news/top_story/topstory.txt ...."Matthews displayed his genitalia to the child."

That poor child.

Posted by: Jim on February 1, 2004 9:43 AM

Jim, Why not give somebody the benefit of the doubt instead of repeating HEARSAY which is not admissable in court. Why not give Jon the same benefit you would expect for yourself. My mother always told me that if I could not say something nice KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT. The courts will decide Jon's fate. Meanwhile, don't gossip. Best of luck to Jon...

Posted by: Virginia on February 3, 2004 2:16 PM

Anyone know when Jon's next court date is? I believe I last heard it was early February but not sure. Good Luck to you Jon!

Posted by: Fred on February 5, 2004 2:08 PM

Jon,

I always thought "what are we going to do when Jon is gone?" I can't believe you are gone. I pray that your integrity is redeemed. It's very hard for listeners and supporters to get any updates on your progress. I was pleased to see the post by Moby and your brother, only hoping they are not clones messing around. Can't wait to hear the good news that you have been no-billed. I have come to the conclusion that you will not be offered a position back at 700, but hopefully there will be another forum for you to enter in the Houston area. Keep your family close and comfort the boys, but remember to watch your back. I too am an escapee from the Golden Triangle. Vidor was my home, so I miss the calls to your mom and the conversation about your home.
Best Wishes Jon and the Matthews family.

Dear Virginia,
These days the criminals have more rights than their victims. What about that poor child?
Whose looking out for her?

Just imagine how her parents must feel.
I'm sure Jon will try to hire some slick, fast talking lawyer to save his butt. Meanwhile, his victim must live with the horror from that disgusting experience.

I pray for her and her parents.

By the way, my earlier quote was NOT "hearsay"...
it was on the indictment, according to that news link.

So... what's the latest on Jon?
I'm having trouble getting any word?

Posted by: Rod on February 10, 2004 3:47 PM

I agree that the allegations about Jon are very shocking. But what's also upsetting is the fact that losing Jon off the air so suddenly is like losing a family member, and "our" radio guys aren't talking about it on KSEV! Dan Patrick is a self-promoting egotist. My theory is that he wants to run in some kind of political race in the future. In order to do that, he must remove anything that would put his chances of winning in jeopardy. Turning on the radio in the morning is not the same. Edd is fine as an occasional sub, but he's no Jon Matthews. Jon, if you read this, you are sorely missed by many, many people. I hope you find peace in your life whatever the eventual outcome.

Posted by: Amy B. on February 10, 2004 10:31 PM

Would appreciate any updates on Jon as we
were faithful listeners and find it hard to
believe the allegations against him, but the
news media (which I often doubt tells it as it
is) has been slow on any updates.

Thanks

Jon Matthews web site from KSEV is still there.(?)
http://www.ksevradio.com/BioJonMatthews.asp. Maybe Dan and the boys believe he's innocent and will return. I can't imagine Ed is going to do radio and the restaurant business forever. I also believe the silence is the proper thing to do. How often has Jon said if someone was indited they should resign? Well he is only practicing what he has preached. Unlike most people do. Jon, we need you back.

I have listened to you since the old 97 Rock days with Moby and I was cheered to see his post supporting you. You are deeply missed; I feel like I've lost a member of my family. I have received a nasty email from one of the people listed above because of my defense of Jon. and I still believe in innocence until a person is proven guilty. This person called me a liberal even though I am on the right side of Atilla the Hun. Has anyone heard the court dates of Jon's trial?

Posted by: Virginia on February 13, 2004 8:10 PM

Virginia, Atilla was a liberal.
He believed that what belonged to you really belonged to him, and if you didn't like it, he took it by force.

Wow! A voice from the past, and the best radio show in Houston while I was growing up. Thanks for resurrecting pleasant old memories! (even if we both are "over 50".

Posted by: Stephen on February 16, 2004 12:47 AM

Jon Matthews...what a goof.

I have trouble believing that he did what he is accused of. I have long thought he was a narrow minded, egotistical loudmouth, but I have never heard of him doing anything anything worse than running his big mouth.

I sincerely hope the allegations are not true But if they turn out to be true, I hope he is sent to prison for a long time.

I am puzzled about how little has been said in Houston about this although a real liberal media would be eating this stuff up. Apparently the liberal media he went on and on about was more of his bull.

Posted by: Donald on February 17, 2004 9:34 PM

I've been a longtime listener and fan of Jon's. I've met him on numerous occasions and I have difficulty believing the allegations against him. I can't help but think it's a setup, considering how hard he was on the Sugar Land PD.

I was told that Jon's leaving KSEV was his idea, not Dan's. I can see that. Jon's show would have been nothing more than liberals calling in daily and asking him if he got any more underage nookie last night, and believe me they would have done it in droves. I also believe their silence on the matter is correct; Jon needs to be tried by an impartial jury and KSEV doesn't need to be muddying up the waters of the jury pool.

I sure hope that someone (Doug?) can post some trial dates and / or an update on how Jon is doing. Moby, your post was outstanding. You were certainly a "blast from the past."

Jon, best wishes to you.

I’m glad to find this place where I can express my support for Jon. I have experienced such sadness over our huge loss and as well as frustration over this personal devastation to someone so undeserving.

Jon was not silent, was he, when he observed or had reason to suspect misappropriation of public assets. He alerted us to any deception he found in the public arena. He was truly watching out for us and I’m sure this was irritating and threatening to some. The very acumen and bravery which made him a hero to us, no doubt turned him into a target for the less well-intentioned.

Obviously there was an incident, though most likely not as it is being portrayed by the person bringing action against him. I have to believe that whatever happened was either a setup to goad him into some out-of-character behavior or an un-intended foul on his part.

The way I see Jon, he is above reproach. Whatever he may be guilty of, sadly, our system is much more so, in that it can be wrongly used to ruin a human life.

Here is some information I got from Ron Booth's website. Jon's case number is 39007 and the case is on the docket in the Ft. Bend County 268th District court. They are not on line so you can't check for up dates. At the court date on 2/5/04 the case was set for pre-trial motions on 4/5/04. This seems to be the next step.

Matthews was the best thing on KSEV. Mike Richards always seemed a little slow-witted and Dan Patrick remains a goody two-shoes joke! John your still The King!

Posted by: John on March 17, 2004 11:32 AM

Here is how it goes for Dan Patrick, and the other ilk like Edd Hendee at KSEV.
Jon Matthews was getting very, very close to the truth. Ever since Dan Patrick got his KSEV and later KPRC, his lawyer has been the main advisor in the whole deal!

So, Jon Matthews was getting ever closer to the truth about things, especially the illegal
Activities in Fort Bend County, the Police Department, the schools, etc.

Therefore, Jon Matthews was either set-up with this so-called “exposing himself” and/or this “exposure” was just a way that Dan “the New Jesus” Patrick (Danny Scott Goeb) and God-Damn-It-I’m Edd Hendee Super Neo Con (Fascist) could oust Jon Matthews from KSEV and excommunicate him from the Republican Nationalist Socialist movement in AmeriKa!

I do not believe there will be any evidence to convict Jon. Jon will not talk because he knows the truth (and too much of it) to be convicted.

Danny Patrick and Edd are superb in further dumbing-down Christians, Texans and Americans with their propaganda.

KSEV has the worse “Air Polution!”
Geeez….

Also, go to this web site to see what plans our government and military (Army Field Manuals) plan to control the citizens in the time of trouble.....

You tell me who controls who in the Twilight Zone! Perhaps your opinions are already formulated. You just think that you can reason logically.

No offense; but, these documents speak for themselves. Most of us are rats in a maze. Most of use who don't know the "truth!"

Since Jon has left the air, it's been pathetically easy to keep my finger from touching the AM 700 button on the car-radio panel. The station has always been a joke, and Jon was the lone buoy keeping it afloat. Mike Richards retired? Best thing he ever did for the radio waves, though I will miss his daily afternoon lullabies. Perhaps Dan will do us a similar favor...sell the station, run for political office under the "holier-than-thou, I make the Pope look like a porn-star" party, and move to Washington to torture his fellow hypocrites with his rantings. Can you tell I miss you Jon? Hang in there.

License checkpoints spring up
March 22,2004
Mark Lineberger
Staff Writer

Spring is in the air, and with it comes April showers, May flowers, warm weather and N.C. Highway Patrol checkpoints.

A checkpoint Friday morning on Cunningham Road already netted several traffic violations, said Sgt. K.W. Cook.

"We found several driving with revoked licenses, a few other violations and I know there was one drunk driver," Cook said.

Cook said that drunk drivers can be found on the roads at all times of the day and night, even in the mornings.

"Drunk drivers don't really follow a schedule," Cook said

Has ksev provided any updates on Jon since his departure? I didn't think he was convicted of anything at this point, what would be the harm in updating Jon's former listeners periodically with anything they might know?

No KSEV has not dony any updates.....

Jon Matthews would ask?
If the president delayed the elections for 30, 60, 90 days or forever do to his 100 years fight over terrorism, would you do it and give up "your" rights, would you do it?

I agree with Virginia's posting of 3/27 --- let's stay with the purpose of "Jon Matthews updates." There are those who do not wish him well, but most of us continue our prayers for him and his family. Someone mentioned "the poor young girl" but failed to say - at least the last time I heard - that neither she nor her parents made the complaint .. indeed, had not shown up for any hearings, etc. Where is the accuser? And does it not seem strange to anyone that this has been dragging on for so long? I think "they" were out to damage Jon and shut him down ---- they've done both, of course. Are they now just letting it die a slow death and eventually the matter dropped?
Jon & family: If you read this, know that there are many out here pulling for you all.
We love you. God's blessings; He will give you strength.

I just heard on the radio this morning that Jon was to go to court ?tomorrow?, but I don't know what phase or motion of the process it will be for...meanwhile I've read through the postings and felt compelled to leave my full support for Jon. I pray for him and for his vindication, and hope that after all is said and done that he returns with a vengeance!

Update on Jon:

At the pre-trial motions on Monday; the case was set to be tried on June 28, 2004 in Judge Brady Elliott's court. Asst. DA Suzy Morton will prosecute the case. Jon is charged with indecency with a child by exposure ( no contact) which is a 3rd degree felony. If convicted; he could receive 2-10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Jon entered a plea of not guilty and is free on bond. So; now we have to wait 2 more months for something to happen. Hang in there Jon! We're still behind you.

Also Mr. Hendee is o.k. but I would rather Have Walt Cunninghams "Lift off to Logic" back on. Dan and Ed are fine but if I want Christian Radio there are 2 or 3 other channels I can listen to.

I have been a listener since the Moby days. Good Luck buddy.

Posted by: Steve on April 12, 2004 10:18 PM

As a committed Christian, I must say I agree with you Tony. I find it somewhat disturbing that Dan (especially) chooses to regularly mix his 'religion and politics'. I think he does the Christian faith a great disservice -- the Cross should never be wrapped in the flag of ANY political party or ideology. Surely this practice turns people OFF to the faith. I believe Dan's last whopper was that THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST was going to win GW the election??? give me a break.

It was for this reason that I found Jon's reasoning and logic so powerful; he always came very prepared and well-studied, ready to take-on all-comers in healthy/fair debate without having to resort to the 'religion card'.

Continued best wishes to you and your family Jon during this period -- hoping to see you cleared of these charges.

I guess we need a draft, and thus Senate Bill 89..."Ding Ding" The Draft......

Rod

As for Senate Bill 89 I have long said that every person unless they are in school should do at least 2 years in the Military, not for the war issues, but they teach self reliance, discipline, and team work. I'm not sure that Jon would agree with me on that or not. As far as Mr. Patrick is concerned I'm like W.C. Fields, I believe, that said religion is a great thing taken in small doses. In Defense of Mr. Patick and Mr. Hendee I do think that they are doing a nice job when it comes to C.L.O.U.T. and I know that Jon would support them in this matter. I just wish that there was a way to speed up the Trial and the eventual aquittal me Mr. Mathews

Posted by: Tony on April 14, 2004 11:29 AM

Senate Bill 89 will insist that every young man and young woman will be conscripted into the military. No conscientious objectors. Those conscientious objectors will be
Enlisted in a work detail like picking up trash, clearing brush …..like the Brown Shirts in Germany like 1944…….the age group is 18-24/25…..I hear there is an amendment for ages 24/25 through 55…..

Nightline Sells Martial Law (4/2004)

http://www.media-criticism.com/Koppel_Martial_Law_04_2004.html

Will the US be under martial law by June, 2004? That is the impression some are expressing after witnessing a recent episode of Nightline (4/7/2004), with Ted Koppel. On this particular program Koppel is host to Richard Clarke, former Reagan officials Edwin Meese III and Kenneth M. Duberstein; former Clinton official Sally Katzen, author James Mann, and former Bush official Richard Clarke. The subject matter is named The Armageddon Plan.

Because many US citizens hold favorable views of Richard Clarke he was playing a key role. His affability enables him to convey the dark plans of the Bush Regime to critical observers without alarming the unconcious masses. On this program Clarke was on to inform elite audiences that they better get used to the idea the Bush Regime will sponsor a cataclysmic event in order to plunge the US under martial law.

Richard Clarke is already a legend in the world of propaganda. So far the Bush Regime has parlayed his "defection" from them with great success. As Karl Rove probably surmised, The Left Gatekeepers (e.g., Democracy Now! and Counterpunch, etc.) have been only very eager to treat Clarke's mild disagreements with the Bush Regime as their outer limit of permissible dialogue. With the liberal US media regarding Clarke's thesis that the Bush Regime was merely negligent about 9-11 as if it were the only idea possible the White House sailed through the 9-11 Commission/Coverup proceedings.

Now that the 9-11 Commission/Coverup has been safely wrapped for the Bush Regime the mainstream media is now giving some focus to James Mann’s curiously-timed book (Rise of the Vulcans: The History of Bush's War Cabinet, Viking Press, 2004)). Vulcans concerns the efforts of present and past White House officials to establish a set of procedures for the highest-levels of government to follow should a catastrophic attack occur on US soil.

(Note that Nightline has dropped the moniker Rise of the Vulcans for the more Regime-friendly The Armageddon Plan. The latter conveys a greater sense of a Regime reacting to a stimulus, not being the source of it.)

The segment began with congenial chatter between the past and present government officials. As if he is hosting a dinner party Koppel smoothly has his guests reminisce fondly about past drills performed by high-level government officials to test their emergency preparedness. Koppel then imagines an attack that decimates the US Congress. They break for a timely commercial. After the break Koppel immediately launches into the key part of their script: “…aren't [we] left for at least the foreseeable future with some sort of martial law anyway?”

Duberstein agrees with Koppel, adding “You have to suspend rights.”

Koppel continues by saying: “…And during that period, then, and given the sense of panic that is inevitable under circumstances like this, the executive branch of government takes on extraordinary power, doesn't it?”

Clarke agrees by saying: “I think in any war where Washington were [sic] destroyed, inevitably, there would be a period of, for lack of a better term, something like martial law. The key here is, though, that the plans all call for going back to a normal three-branch system, as rapidly as possible.”

Koppel reacts to Clarke's ideas by suggesting what he has said is a new idea to many leaders in Washington. Sure it is, Ted. The conversation quickly winds down.

Nightline's very efficient use of Richard Clarke to prepare elite viewers for martial law is leading other observers on the Net to reluctantly conclude the merciless Bush Regime is actively planning the catalyst for their own Armagaddon Plan. In a different world perhaps, the journalist leading a nationally-televised discussion about the prospects of the US government under martial law would look Clarke in the eye and ask him if the Bush Regime isn't planning to set off some nukes shortly in some city close to Washington DC (e.g., Baltimore). It really isn't that hard to imagine that the prospect of ruling planet Earth from a secret, underground bunker would gladden Dick Cheney’s venal heart. He's been practicing in secret locations for decades in gleeful anticipation for such a moment.

As the prospects for survival under the Bush Regime becomes increasingly dire it should be obvious by now that the only way to stop them is to continue spreading the truth about 9-11, Richard Clarke and the Left Gatekeepers notwithstanding. Specifically, the last idea the Bush Regime wants people to receive is the revelation that jet fuel burning black cannot possibly melt steel. So anti-war activists, it is high time that we tell everyone about this that we can.

Scott Loughrey

So,
If the Prez declares Martial Law, is everyone for it. Just lay down and give up your rights?
And the sheep say Yes!

Patriot Act Being Used to Harrass BlackBoxVoting.org website

Do you trust the programmer who programs the Black Box Voting Machines? He who controls the vote controls the people.....

The Secret Service Wants Your Name: Will "subpeona" this web site?

Bev Harris
http:www.BlackBoxVoting.org

And by the way, they read every word. Hi, agent Mike. This "investigation" no longer passes the stink test.

He says not to tell folks about the "investigating" they are doing.

I have cooperated ad nauseum to this absurd investigation of the "VoteHere hack" which looks to me like it is something entirely different. I'll tell you what it looks like to me:

A fishing expedition.

It appears that they may be using the Patriot Act to circumvent some of the civil rights protections laid down in the 60s. You see, it is illegal for a government agency to go in and demand the list of all the members of a group. And you can't investigate leaks to journalists by going in and grabbing the reporter's computer.

After the Diebold memos were leaked, and my web site was shut down, around the time of the California recall election, I started getting solicited to accept VoteHere software. I didn't bite, because it was obvious that this was an entrapment attempt.

Okay, a word about VoteHere: This is the company that has no visible means of support. It doesn't seem to sell anything. Its board is heavily infested with defense industry types -- a former CIA director (Robert Gates, now heads George Bush School of Government); it had Admiral Bill Owens, also Vice-Chairman of SAIC and a member of the Defense Policy Board with Perle and Wolfowitz, a very close friend of Cheney; currently headed by former Washington Secretary of State Ralph Munro.

VoteHere announced that it would be releasing its software for review, back in July 2003. It was planning to release it in September, and was supposed to do so to Dr. David Dill's web site. It never released the code, just a bunch of literature about its product. (It did release some, but not all, of its code this month, making a big splash about it). About a week into October, I got solicited with an email "click this link" for VoteHere software.

Now who would fall for that? Why would anyone in their right mind grab the stuff in some clandestine manner when it was being released into the open momentarily? And this is a company that never sells anything. Who gives a shit anyway, what its software does? It now is trying to peddle yet another alternative to a voter verified paper ballot, an idiotic solution where we turn over auditing of the vote to a handful of cryptographers who work for a private company with defense industry ties. No one I know thinks that is even a viable concept, so why would we care to examine the software these cryptographers make up?

I was in the ending stages of writing my book, putting new chapters online every few days, at that time. Like I'm going to hack into VoteHere (those who know me realize that I couldn't hack my way out of a paper bag) -- this was just dumb.

I turned down the software. In early January this year, VoteHere does a press release that it was "hacked" in October and tries to blame it on the activism community. I published an article expressing doubt that we'd gotten the whole story.

Now, I have been interviewed by the Secret Service on this VoteHere "hack" story about five times. They never spend much time on the hack. Most of the time is spent on the Diebold memos, which they claim they are not investigating.

Here's the deal: The leaking of memos to journalists is not something the government can come in and demand to investigate very easily.

Under the Patriot Act, "hacking" crimes were turned over to a new division, called the CyberCrimes division, and placed under the auspices of the Secret Service. And let me tell you what they want from me now: They want the logs of my web site with all the forum messages, and the IP addresses. That's right. All of them. A giant fishing expedition for every communication of everyone interested in the voting issue. This has nothing to do with a VoteHere "hack" investigation, and I have refused to turn it over.

So, yesterday, they call me up and tell me they are going to subpeona me and put me in front of a grand jury. Well, let 'em. They still aren't getting the list of members of BlackBoxVoting.org unless they seize my computer -- which my attorney tells me might be what they have in mind.

Also, Agent Mike told me he just "happened" to be on the plane with me a couple weeks ago. What's that supposed to do? Scare me? "You were going to Oakland," he said. Yeah, and Diebold lawyer's memos appeared in the Oakland Tribune, but guess what, Mike: That was the first hop of three on my way to Dallas. I left that morning for a speech at the Dallas Democratic Forum that evening. Never even got off the plane. Better luck next time.

And if they were really investigating what they said -- a VoteHere "hack" can someone explain why they want the logs from the web site BlackBoxVoting.org -- it was SHUT DOWN due to Diebold cease & desists during the period of the supposed "hack."

And (you know who you are) -- consider this a heads up: If you start bumbling around in my house with U.S. marshalls, the very first thing that will happen is mainstream news coverage that you are misusing the Patriot Act to get at membership lists and private correspondence for a fishing expedition on stuff that isn't even the subject of a legitimate investigation.

Yeah, I'm not a happy camper. Taking the pulse of our democracy nowadays, it doesn't feel very healthy, does it?

Bev Harris

P.S. Everyone say hi to Mike.

The resumption of the military draft is another sign that we live in dangerous times and the United States is unhappily becoming a grotesque caricature of what it was. The photos of Brit and American soldiers abusing Iraqi detainees enraged me. I would like for that woman bridgadier in charge of the prison, Janice whatever her name is (East European-sounding name), to be court-martialed and for those UK and US soliders to be subjected to the harshest punishment before being forever separated from the armed services. I want their names to be made public if they are found guilty. I suppose Dannie Goeb (Padre Patricio) approves of this kind of monstrosity. This war is not in the best tradition of this country. I wonder what old "Cat Daddy" thinks of all this.

Finally, It's soooo stupid to "divide and conquer" when (especially) when Republicans keep calling the Democrats socialist/communist and evil when in fact the Republican Christian base has become Facist Christian Conservative Republicans....they are the pot calling the kettle black! After all this is a free country (or was) I still have the right to attempt to tell the truth. I have been in the news business and know how to search things for their validity of truth. Don't let yourself be brainwashed under the guise of the CIA MK Ultra program. And don't get on a train to safety or the FEMA trucks. You will probably won't come back....from the American Concentration Camps....
Very Respectfully yours,
Rod

This has become a sick site for a bunch of airheads. I did not realize that so many people in this area fell into this group. Just goes to show how wrong a person can be. May GOD bless you and stop showing what jackasses you really are.

You folks need to keep focused on King Cat Daddy---that is, Jon Matthews. Cat Daddy, I hope you read this! KSEV really is a big joke without you. Aryan Dan and his daily self-righteous rants make me sick. I ain't no regular radio-phile. I'd listen again, Cat Daddy, if you were on it! You need to open up your mind just a little bit more toward liberalism. I ain't asking you to agree with it, just see the good side of it. We needs a state income tax. I know you don't like that. Old Rikki-Tikki-Perri is just kiddin hisself, man, he sure am! He wants to tax cigarettes to death in order to make it possible for people to keep their homes. And sexually orientated businesses. Ain't gonna work, Rikki. Yet ole Aryan Dan thinks ole Rikki-Tikki hung the moon. Ooo-wee! Get back in there, Cat Daddy!
