States I've Attended Weddings In: Massachussettes, New York, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Ohio, Illinois, Arkansas, Texas, Colorado, Arizona, California, Nevada, Montana, Oregon.
Not A State, But I've Attended Weddings There Anyway: Washington, DC, and Vancouver, British Columbia.
States I've Attended Sporting Events In: New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Florida, Indiana, Louisiana, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Illinois, Texas, Colorado, Montana, California, Oregon.
Not A State, But I've Attended A Sporting Event There Anyway: Tokyo, Japan.
States I've Only Driven Through And Thus Haven't Technically Visited If Actually Setting Foot In The Place Is Required To Count As A Visit: Connecticut, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Idaho.
I'm sure you're all just enthralled. You can create your own visited states map if you want to, or just click on More and see where I've been.

For example, you mention "States I've Only Driven Through And Thus Haven't Technically Visited If Actually Setting Foot In The Place Is Required To Count As A Visit." To me, that's a visit (though if it's not, I think only Connecticut and New Jersey fall out of the 19 states plus D.C. I've visited).
What I do not count as a visit are places where I only change planes in an airport. That excludes Washington, Utah, Colorado, Illinois and Tennessee; include those and I'm up to 24 states (plus D.C.)
I do include states where the main purpose was to change planes-- IF we spent time off the airport. That allows us to claim Minnesota (long layover plus trip to the Mall of America) and Missouri (overnight stay in St. Louis).
I may have had a change in Salt Lake once, but if so I can barely remember it, so I'm not counting Utah. I agree that such a thing doesn't count. At least I got to see scenery (even if it was just an interstate) driving through.
