Texas Golf

I'm not a golf fan, but if you are, you should check out Texas Golf, a blog devoted to (you guessed it) golf in Texas. Even if you're not, do read this post about the development of a PGA Village on the Edwards Aquifer recharge zone, which involves a sweetheart deal and a special tax break that passed through the Lege under the radar. Good stuff there, so take a look.

Developers destroyed endangered birds' habitat

05/01/2005

Associated Press

"Developers have destroyed 270 acres of habitat of an endangered Texas songbird, according to a settlement with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

"A firm owned by Gene Powell and Lloyd Denton Jr. acknowledged in September that it had thinned out thousands of cedar trees on its 1,500-acre property known as Indian Springs near the future PGA Tour resort, federal records show.

"Mature mountain cedars are a crucial habitat of the golden-cheeked warbler, a rare songbird that nests only in Central Texas. The bird was put on the endangered species list in 1990, and the Audobon Society labels it one of the most at-risk species in North America."

Kuff, today's post, seemingly out of the Blue actually ties into my Father's city council race. Because I knew there was this huge golf development being proposed near Fredericksburg that has been real quiet locally and hard to get any information about. And the top post over there is about it. Thanks ever so much.
