I agree with Smarty Pants. The time to start raising money for John Cornyn's eventual opponent is now. (And no, whatever his flacks may say, it ain't gonna be this guy.) If you're on board with that, click here to donate. The filing deadline for 2008 is sooner than you think, and depending on what happens in the Lege, it might be even sooner than that. Cornyn isn't as well-funded as KBH was, but he can make that up quickly, and there's no reason why whoever runs against him should have to start out in a hole. You can help with that. Thanks very much.

any moderate R-Conservative R will win the state...pulling Cornyn right along with them
Posted by: Right of Texas on February 4, 2007 12:14 PMI don't think we need a "moderate" candidate so much as we need one who is well-funded (above all else) and able to show empathy, humanity, and good judgment. I think the mood right now in Texas is favorable to split-ticket voting - R for president, probably, but undecided for House and Senate. I base this assumption on Bush's weak poll numbers and on the fairly strong showing that Democrats had at the state leg and Congressional level last year.
I suppose the conventional wisdom is that BAR might run again. Never-ending speculation about mayor Miller and mayor White.
I tend to believe that we'll be surprised over the next few months as interested candidates start lining up.
