Friday random ten: Texas, our Texas

We were out of town most of last week, visiting friends in the Washington, DC area, so here are ten songs to serve as reminders of home for the next time we travel.

1. Irving – Austin Lounge Lizards
2. Odessa – The Mollys
3. Deep Ellum Blues – Asylum Street Spankers
4. Memories of East Texas – Michelle Shocked
5. That’s Right (You’re Not From Texas) – Lyle Lovett
6. Texas Flood – Stevie Ray Vaughan
7. Merry Texas Christmas, Y’all – Asleep At The Wheel
8. Texas Tea Party – Shorty Long
9. The Rivers of Texas – Flying Fish Sailors
10. Is Anybody Going To San Antone? – Doug Sahm and Band

There are of course a million Lounge Lizards songs that would be appropriate for this list, but “Irving” is a fave of mine, one which I don’t think I’ve ever heard them perform live. Pity, that. What’s reminding you of home this week?

Hmm. It’s understandable I wouldn’t have many songs about Texas, I suppose:

“He Rode All the Way to Texas,” Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, Emmylou Harris from Trio II

“Waltz Across Texas Tonight,” Emmylou Harris from Wrecking Ball

Neither do I have many titles with “Hawai’i” or “Honolulu.”

  2. Joe White says:

Bob Wills’ Beaumont Rag (but that’s just me)
