Another look at the new Costco

Swamplot has an updated look at the Costco that’s coming to the west end of Greenway Plaza, at Weslayan and Richmond. From the description of the parking lot, I’d say it puts to rest any possible notion that it might possibly be accommodating to rail passengers, if any such notion still existed. Seems like a missed opportunity to me, but they didn’t ask me. Anyway, check it out.

That new gas station should be excellent for all the people who drive to work in the area (quite a few people, judging from my parking in the garages to call on clients)!

You know, people not unlike yourself, who probably think transit for others is a great idea, but whose lives are just too busy/complicated actually to ditch daily use of their cars for it. 🙂

I don’t know that I’d call it “unaccomodating” to rail passengers, but I’d probably call it terrorizing to traffic on Weslayan & 59. I’m sure I’ll make ample use of the place once it’s built up.

    Wow, looks awful!

Couldn’t they put that in Katy somewhere?

Lord knows, they have so few options now for gas.

Your assumption is faulty. I can’t take transit to work because it doesn’t exist for me. When there’s a rail station near my house that will connect me to the Main Street line, then it will actually be an option. Of course, to get to that point, I’ll have to fight a lot of resistance from people not unlike you.

Costco makes a point to offer better wages to its people than many retail outlets and also offers a decent benefit package. The CEO has done this despite some shareholder pressure to be more like Wal-Mart.

I only care about rail to the extent it is opposed by Republicans. I vote for it because it annoys people I don’t like and because I am for any extension of government in a place like Houston. For these reasons, I would vote for rail if the tracks were inclined towards the sky and the train could only be propelled by a type of rocket engine.

  6. IHB2 says:

Costco’s belief that LRT would reduce potential customers by blocking Richmond entry/exit is the reason the U Line is turning at Cummins to cross the freeway instead of continuing a few blocks west where it could cross 59 at Drexel or the UPRR w/o the cost of elevation.
