Friday random ten: The teen years

Continuing with last week’s theme, here are ten more numeric songs, beginning with the number 11:

1. Eleven Easy Steps – Trout Fishing In America
2. Come And I Will Sing You (The Twelve Apostles) – Great Big Sea
3. The Fourteenth of February – Billy Bragg
4. 15 to 20 – The Phenomenal Handclap Band
5. (She’s) Sexy and 17 – Stray Cats
6. I’m Eighteen – Alice Cooper
7. Hey, Nineteen – Steely Dan
8. Twenty Naked Pentecostals In A Pontiac – Cornerstone
9. 22 Nights With Lily – Stereogum x team9
10. John Doe No. 24 – Mary-Chapin Carpenter

Sorry, no 13 and no 16, so I had to make do. What teen-numbered songs do you have in your library?

Entire song list report: Started with “Lay Down Your Weapons”, by Scissors For Lefty. Finished with “Light of the World”, from the “Godspell” soundtrack, song #2882. That’s 104 tunes this week.

Ripping vinyl report: Did side two of Springsteen’s “Darkness On The Edge Of Town”, and also did “Tunnel of Love”, thus completing the Springsteen collection. Dude made a lot of music, that’s for dang sure.

    Huh. Not many.

    11 O’Clock Tick Tock – U2
Twelve-Thirty (Young Girls Are Coming To The Canyon) – The Mamas & The Papas
    Only Sixteen – Sam Cooke
Edge of Seventeen – Stevie Nicks
    Hey Nineteen! – Steely Dan
Twentieth Century Fox – The Doors

  2. Greg Wythe says:

I should be appalled that there’s no “Christine Sixteen” by KISS. But considering that there’s not much difference in terms of content between that and “Seventeen” by Winger, I’m thinking it’s time to start a kerosene fire with some of the more age-inappropriate tunes in my own collection.

On a better note, “Idea #21 (Not Too Late)” by Over the Rhine is a bit more grown-up addition that fills in one of the blanks above.

  3. Ken says:

Plenty of choices for both, but my favorites are:

Thirteen by Big Star (one of the greatest songs ever written I might add)

Sixteen, Maybe Less by Calexico/Iron & Wine

  4. E. 11th St. (live) – Jon Dee Graham
    7 Manos St. 12/24 8:13 am – Halley
No. 13 Baby – The Pixies
Claire Danes Poster – Size 14
15th & NY Getaway – Crimes Of Paris
    16, Maybe Less – Calexico/Iron And Wine
    Seventeen Years (live) – Ratatat
    A.M. 180 – Grandaddy
    1949 – Peel
    Twenty Years – Dwight Yoakam
