Friday random ten: It’s not the end of the world, but you can see it from here

No matter what you think, what happened Tuesday wasn’t the end of the world. But if you still feel that way, here are ten songs to take to the end of the world with you:

1. Party At Ground Zero – Fishbone
2. Walking In Your Footsteps – The Police
3. Life During Wartime – Talking Heads
4. It’s A Mistake – Men At Work
5. Christmas At Ground Zero – Weird Al Yankovic
6. End Of The World – Great Big Sea
7. UFO Attack – Asylum Street Spankers
8. 99 Red Balloons – Nena
9. Here Comes The Flood – Peter Gabriel
10. Until The End Of The World – U2

The 80s really were the high point for eschatological music, weren’t they? And of course we can’t leave the subject behind without including the best end times song of them all:

What songs will you be listening to when the party is over and you’re out of time?

Entire song list report: Started with “Police On My Back”, by Willie Nile. Finished with “Quartet (A Model Of Decorum And Tranquility)”, from the “Chess” soundtrack, song #4109, for a total of 87 this week. The last P song was “Puttin’ On The Ritz”, by Taco. The first Q song was “Quail”, by Sun Electric. We won’t be in the Q’s for long.

Great list. I’d also include my favorite in this genre, “It’s the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine),” by R.E.M.

  2. FYI, “End Of The World” by Great Big Sea is a cover of that. They just shortened the title.
