Friday random ten: The top 500, part 4

Continuing on with the songs in my collection from the Rolling Stone Top 500 list.

1. I Heard It Through The Grapevine – Marvin Gaye (#80)
2. You Really Got Me – Van Halen (#82, orig. The Kinks)
3. Every Breath You Take – The Police (#84)
4. Crazy – Patsy Cline (#85)
5. Thunder Road – Bruce Springsteen (#86)
6. Suspicious Minds – Elvis Presley (#91)
7. Blitzkrieg Bop – The Ramones (#92)
8. I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For – U2 (#93)
9. Roll Over Beethoven – The Beatles (#97, orig. Chuck Berry)
10. Fortunate Son – Creedence Clearwater Revival (#99)

I also have the CCR version of “Grapevine”, and three versions of “Thunder Road”, the original, the live version from the “Live 1975-1985” set, and the live version from the MTV “In Concert” CD. I love all three of them.

Entire song list report: Started with “Ruben James”, by the Kingston Trio. Ended with two versions of “Scotland the Brave”, one a vocal version by Forever Plaid and the other an instrumental mashup with “Hava Nagila” by Enter the Haggis. You know what you call “Hava Nagila” played on the bagpipes? Awesome, that’s what. That was song #4495, for a total of 118 this week. The last R song was “The Rusty Plow”, by Gordian Knot. The first S song was “S.U.V.” by Mem Shannon, or “Sacrifice”, by Sinead O’Connor, you pick. We’re gonna be in the S songs for awhile.
