CD23 and HD29 updates

BOR has updates on the state of the special elections in CD23 and HD29. First, for CD23:

The DCCC is on the ground in TX-23. They have made amazing progress in getting Democrat Ciro Rodriguez to actually abide by their rules for this short election period seeing as he's low on cash and institutional support. In other terms, Ciro has actually been on the phone doing call time which in itself is short of a miracle, just to put it in perspective.

Meghan Gaffney as some will remember from Paul Hackett's race in OH-02 is there now as well as Adrian Saenz, the DCCC's National Field Director (who if I'm not mistaken is from San Antonio as it is).

There is a poll in the field right now to determine where things stand on that front.

And HD29, via the Quorum Report:

The Democratic challenger who lost to Rep. Glenda Dawson in the HD 29 race plans to run in the non-partisan special election that will be called to replace the deceased lawmaker. Physician Anthony DiNovo will formally announce his run tomorrow.

That was printed yesterday, so the announcement will be today. As we know, two Republicans are already in, and there may be more candidates to come. As noted in the QR piece, the election is expected to be announced for December 19. Stay tuned.

Despite all his well documented problems, Ciro is a popular politician in San Antonio and has excellent name recognition. Bonilla is the favorite, but he is vulnerable. If Ciro can get a strong South San Antonio turnout (easier said than done) and turnout is weak in the rest of the district (very likely for an election the week before Christmas), Ciro might just win this one.
