Friday random ten: You gonna eat that?

Continuing with our Friday theme lists, here are ten songs about food:

1. Pico de Gallo – Trout Fishing in America
2. Watermelon Time – Marcia Ball
3. Col. Josh’s Homestyle Barbecue – Asylum Street Spankers
4. Taco Bell Canon – Lager Rhythms
5. Tastes Like Chicken – Austin Lounge Lizards
6. Too Much Barbecue – Big Twist & the Mellow Fellows
7. Potato – Cheryl Wheeler
8. Oreos – Tufts Beelzebubs
9. Corndogs – The Bobs
10. Grapefruit Diet – Weird Al Yankovic

Seems like it’s hard to write a food-themed song that’s not a parody or novelty of some kind; only numbers 2 and 3, and maybe 6, fall outside that realm. I’m not sure why that is, but there you have it. What are you hungry for this week?

My eyes are getting too old to scan 3,600 songs for recognizable food words. Have you got some fancy algorithm that searches for them? 😉

  4. No fancy algorithm, though I suppose a compulsive song-tagger could simply do a search. For a lot of these theme posts, I start off knowing about half the songs I’m going to include before I look in iTunes. After that, it’s just an exercise in scrolling and eyeballing.
