Forget it, I'm gonna be a Whig

I think Roy and Jesse have the right idea, so from here on out whenever you hear me criticize the Republican Party or any one of its members, assume I'm speaking as a fellow Republican. In particular, I'm a Republican who can no longer vote for Republicans until they adopt the principles and positions of the Democrats. Got that? Now let's see if I can get the Wall Street Journal to give me equal time.

The Philosoraptor has more, including a bonus Personal Anecdote to tie it all together.

The great historic irony of this is that the Republican Party was originally considered to be liberal and the Democratic Party was conservative. The 1864 election was a perfect example of this (as shown in the book "Lies My Teacher Taught Me"), with one of the Democratic campaign songs being a variation of "Yankee Doodle Dandy" that can not be repeated here. (The lyrics are in the book, as are the Thomas Nast cartoons from that election).

Personally, I'll just stick to the Silly Party.
