Weekend link dump for December 31

Boomers, man. They’ve ruined it for the rest of us.

Lots of people are coming to terms with past associations with sexual harassers. It’s a tough thing to grapple with, but we’re all the better for being open and honest now.

Here’s a map showing how many Americans died as a result of above ground atomic testing during the 1950s.

“The Charterstone Condo Board is pleased to announce this year’s nominees for 2017’s Worthy Awards. Each daily strip has been carefully reviewed by the Condo Board, and this year’s nominees represent the best that Mary Worth has to offer.”

Dirk Nowitzki is a mensch. Be sure to follow the link from inside the story, too.

RIP, Heather Menzies-Urich, best known as one of the Von Trapp children on The Sound Of Music.

“And just what real-world noise is a dragon’s purr based on? Tortoises having very loud tortoise sex.” You’re welcome.

RIP, Bob Givens, animator who helped design Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd.

“Here is a complete list of the now 20 women who have come forward under their own names to accuse the president of sexual assault, unwanted touching or kissing, or other inappropriate sexual behavior.”

If you’re even a little surprised that female sports journalists have to put up with a ton of sexual harassment, you haven’t been paying attention at all.

“For anyone who ever thought their wedding guest list posed challenges, this one tops them all.”

The Library of Congress won’t be archiving your tweets any more.

RIP, Rose Marie, actor and comedian.

RIP, Erica Garner, daughter of police brutality victim Eric Garner.

RIP, Sue Grafton, mystery novelist.

    RE: Erica Garner:

    From her Twitter:

    She passed away this morning. The reports are real. We didn’t deserve her.

    A follow up tweet read, “Out of respect to Erica please do not request a comment if the journalist is not Black.”

    Out of respect to Erica please do not request comment if the journalist is not Black.

    Hey Kuff, here’s what Erica’s family thinks about you, a white person in the press.

    @Bill… Bravo, Bill. Perfect way to start out 2018, sowing racial unrest and stoking the fire. Here’s to 12 more months of your race baiting !

  3. Bill Daniels says:

    @C.L.:

    Are you a Steely Dan fan? I ask, because that’s some pretzel logic right there. All I did was point out how Garner’s family really feels about people who are not black, in their own words.

    I’m just an observer here.

  4. C.L. says:

    @Bill… so your post was a ‘Don’t shoot the piano player, I’m only the messenger’ post [apologies to E. John] ? Why did you feel the need to post about who the Garner family opts to, or opts not to, communicate with ?

  5. Bill Daniels says:

    @C.L.:

    When you report this you remember she was human: mother, daughter, sister, aunt. Her heart was bigger than the world. It really really was. She cared when most people wouldn’t have. She was good. She only pursued right, no matter what. No one gave her justice.

    “She was good. She only pursued right.”

    Goodness=not talking to people who are not black. Right=not talking to people who are not black.

    If we are to really embrace Erica’s activism and her big heart, let’s embrace all of it. To do otherwise dishonors her memory, don’t you think?

  6. C.L. says:

    @Bill… The question, why do you CARE who the Garner family chooses to talk to ?, and had it been your Father that was choked out by an African-American police officer, would you not as well opt not to speak with African-American press or other police officers ? Would you not also question the reporting, have a fear of it being, ultimately, biased in nature ? I understand her position and decision for same, and I’m not African-American… at the end of the day, I don’t give a shit who she speaks with, nor do I question her motives behind her decision to talk to those she does. You’re a race baiter and on occasion, what my Mother would call a ‘Shit Starter’, and from what I gather, a Republican/conservative. I’m just confused with you, seemingly, retreating from a/the Republican approach to most everything, that big government is evil and shouldn’t be involved in the market or in others lives. Not sure why your involved in Ms. Garner’s.
