Saturday video break: Even football players cry

The 1970s. A time of wide lapels, challenging societal norms, and retired football players singing about the virtues of being in touch with your feelings. This video is about all of those things:

Those of you of a certain age may remember this from the Marlo Thomas production Free to Be…You and Me. I remember seeing the TV special as a kid, and for whatever the reason this song has stuck in my head ever since. I was reminded of it the other day when my sister posted a Facebook update about trying not to cry at her son’s kindergarten graduation. So I figured I’d share.

By the way, while I remember Rosey Grier as a pop culture figure of the 70s, and that he was known for things like doing needlepoint, I had no idea he had been a bodyguard for Robert F. Kennedy, or that he was the one who subdued Sirhan Sirhan after the assassination. You learn something new every day.

See, I remember him first for football and then as a bodyguard for RFK. I had no idea about needlepoint or this video.
