National Talk Like A Pirate Day

Today is National Talk Like A Pirate Day. Too bad we don’t have a staff meeting, this could have come in handy.

You can also find out your Pirate Name. Here’s mine:

Captain James Rackham

Even though there’s no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you’re the one in charge. You have the good fortune of having a good name, since Rackham (pronounced RACKem, not rack-ham) is one of the coolest sounding surnames for a pirate. Arr!

Today is also my baby brother’s 30th birthday. Happy birthday, Michael! Welcome to your fourth decade. Your AARP membership card is in the mail.

And hey, if talking like a pirate isn’t enough fun, you can always white-boy rap like a pirate.

You’re gonna swing from the gallows if you don’t stop the killin’…
You’d better eat all your lemons or else you’ll be illin’

Is this a great country or what?

(Thanks to Liz, Katy, and Angelo from the Roundtable list for pointing this out to me.)

UPDATE: Andrew Northrup has an excellent rapper-to-pirate translation table.

Like the famous Dread Pirate Roberts, you have a keen head for how to
make a profit. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate’s
life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!

woot woot, wut a freakin’ awesome pirate!!!
