Roy is in

I’d been counting him as a candidate, if not a particularly serious one, since he had filed a treasurer’s report, but Roy Morales has now officially announced his candidacy for Mayor of Houston. He Twittered about it last night, but apparently I’m not on his press release distribution list. Ah, well.

As for the question of whether or not Latino voters would support Roy’s campaign, well, I’ll point you to this and let you decide for yourself.

If at first you don’t succeed, TRY TRY TRY again… Much like a buffet, more choice is always a good thing on a ballot in my estimation, but the real question people need to ask is: “is this the best Woodfill can come up with ?”. That’s the real story here – not the fact that Roy is running for something again. The Repubs wouldn’t rally around him for City Council in a straight up run-off (twice I believe), why would they for mayor ? Is the GOP throwing in the towel for City elections now and for the foreseeable future?

It will be interesting to see how the Hispanic community votes. They are not happy with the lack of support by the Harris County Democratic Party and the Texas Democratic Party for Rick Noriega. And that may motivate quite a few to vote for a Republican simply on that basis. Basically to “shoot the bird” at the Harris County Democratic Party as well as the Texas Democratic Party.

As for the immigration issue, quite a few Hispanics who are citizens oppose “guest workers” despite the assumption that they don’t. Texans for Immigration Reform was founded by a Hispanic although the organization he founded was not the organization that became associated with Roy Beck and his racism. Many Hispanics have found themselves displaced by “guest workers” willing to work for less money and without benefits. It is not as “black and white” an issue as most assume it is.

As for the Harris County Republican Party, they seem only interested in county races for some reason. Perhaps because they still control county government and are content with controlling the county government. Reality is the city for the most part is Democratic and the votes just aren’t there.

But you never know. If there is indication of sufficient support in the Hispanic community, they may decide to fund a Republican for mayor and really support him. They didn’t support Orlando Sanchez. But then Orlando Sanchez didn’t have the Hispanic support that Roy Morales may have. It doesn’t matter why he may have that support. All that matters is he may have it.

    BS-

What, specifically, do you mean the HCDP didn’t do to help Rick? I’m insulted by that, as both Rick & Melissa are friends of mine.

Seriously, and with all due respect, you don’t know what you are talking about.

Give me a single example of how we didn’t go all out for Rick. Better yet, ask Rick or Melissa if they have any complaints.

You just made a mistake and owe me, Gerry, and the HCDP an apology. And by the way, Rick won Harris County.

    Scoreboard.

Campos, a Hispanic, said his party’s efforts to motivate Hispanic voters was substandard. Birnberg disagreed, saying that among other things, Democrats aimed at Hispanic households with a recorded telephone message from Clinton urging voters to back every candidate.

Birnberg pointed out that all countywide Democratic Hispanic candidates won their contests except one, while district attorney candidate C.O. “Brad” Bradford and other black candidates lost.

Regardless, “clearly we must continue to do better year in and year out in the Hispanic community,” Birnberg added.

Don’t hold your breath for an apology.

And by the way, how much did Bill White give to Noriega?

Wow, shows where complete crap comes from. Good, well I thought you had real information, I’m not so worried now.

Marc has actually put his money where his mouth is in trying to turn out Hispanics with his forum this weekend.

Gerry spoke the obvious, as Hispanics didn’t turn out, saying we needed to do better.

Never, no where, do you site anything specific, other than Marc’s blog. Again, great job with the political insight.

And since you are so out of the know, ask Rick how many fundraisers Mayor White did for him. Answer: multiple. But then again, you wouldn’t know that as it wasn’t in the paper or on Marc’s blog.

Assessing the entire Hispanic Community’s feeling about HCDP based on Marc’s blog and a quote is awesome.

    Good job on being clueless.
