Senate fundraising

After that last post, I don’t quite have the energy to get into other fundraising data just yet. Just as well, since there’s not much to see yet on the FEC page for Texas candidates. Bill White announced raising $1 million, plus another $800K from, himself, which as far as Texas Politics can tell puts him at the head of the pack. Nobody on the Republican side reports anywhere near that much, and White’s $3.4 million cash on hand is likely more than all of the GOPers combined. I’ve got White’s press release beneath the fold, and as with the other post I’ll add to this one as I hear more.

Texans Support Mayor Bill White for U.S. Senate

Contributors pour more than $4.3 million into campaign

HOUSTON, TEXAS — More than 3000 supporters have have contributed more than $4.3 million to Houston Mayor Bill White’s campaign for U.S. Senate since he launched it, according to a report to be filed with the Federal Election Commission today.

The contributions for the filing period ending June 30th totaled more than $1.8 million, with more than $1 million raised. The candidate made a donation and matched all June contributions for a personal total of $821,000.

Campaign Finance Chair Scott Atlas said, “The energy on Bill’s campaign is growing because Texans see that as our next U.S. Senator, Bill White will be a strong voice for our state’s future. We deserve a leader who will put Texas first.”

Field Director J.D. Gins added, “Grassroots support is building, with more than 1000 of the contributors giving less than $100. Texans are rallying behind him, and we’re building an active team across the state.”

The son of San Antonio schoolteachers, White helped build a law firm and managed a successful business before being elected Houston’s mayor in 2003. Since then, he’s been re-elected twice with 86% and 91% of the vote. During White’s administration, Houston led the nation’s cities in job growth, adding more jobs than sixteen states combined. At the same time, he cut property taxes five years in a row and got tax relief for seniors. White also started a Returning Veterans Initiative that gives veterans the welcome they deserve with coordinated social services, reductions in red tape, and employment opportunities. After Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Ike, Bill White mobilized an effective disaster response including first responders, businesses, and churches. For this compassionate, hands-on leadership, White received the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award in 2007. Previously, he served as Deputy Secretary of Energy of the United States.
