That presidential picker thingy

Question: Has any Democrat who’s taken this poll wound up with a preference other than Kucinich or an unnamed Green candidate? Here are my results:

1. Kucinich, Cong. Dennis, OH – Democrat (100%) Click here for info
2. Kerry, Senator John, MA – Democrat (82%) Click here for info
3. Gephardt, Cong. Dick, MO – Democrat (79%) Click here for info
4. Edwards, Senator John, NC – Democrat (78%) Click here for info
5. Dean, Gov. Howard, VT – Democrat (78%) Click here for info
6. Sharpton, Reverend Al – Democrat (74%) Click here for info
7. Lieberman Senator Joe CT – Democrat (72%) Click here for info
8. Graham, Senator Bob, FL – Democrat (63%) Click here for info
9. Moseley-Braun, Former Senator Carol IL – Democrat (55%) Click here for info
10. Bush, George W. – US President (15%) Click here for info

Honestly, I couldn’t answer some of their questions because they were a bit too skewed for me. It’s a cute exercise and all, but it means about as much as one of those “Which Star Trek Character Are You?” quizzes.

(In-joke that approximately eight of my readers will get: This quiz says that my ideal Presidential candidate is Tyrone Power!)

UPDATE: Here’s one: Greg Wythe, Texas’ biggest supporter of Joe Lieberman, got his man in the #1 slot. At least now we know it’s capable of ranking a Democrat higher than Kucinich.

My top 5 ended up like this:

    1. Kerry, Senator John, MA – Democrat (100%) Click here for info
    2. Edwards, Senator John, NC – Democrat (94%) Click here for info
    3. Gephardt, Cong. Dick, MO – Democrat (93%) Click here for info
    4. Clinton, Senator Hillary Rodham, NY – Democrat (93%) Click here for info
    5. Lieberman Senator Joe CT – Democrat (92%) Click here for info

    Kucinich was 10th (77%), Dean was 18th (58%), Bush was 19th (48%), the Green Party was 20th (48%), and Lyndon LaRouche was 33rd (-10%).

  2. Michael says:

I got the unnamed green/Kucinich. They need a question that reads “Would you ever consider voting Green, especially after they let Nader hijack them in 2000?”

Shrub got a perfect score. 0%

  3. Ginger says:

How can you tell Michael and Ginger apart? Not by any of the online tests we take. 😛

Kynn Bartlett has some interesting comments on the test, too.

  4. Amy says:

Tyrone Power? Weird. Mine told me some guy named Matt Cohen. 😉

Actually, I get Kucinich as my top choice, too. I still like Dean the best. The things that cause him to be ranked lower according to SelectSmart are things that mean less to me than the things where I agree with him. I also just simply like his style. I think he might actually have a shot of winning, too. He’s my guy.

The problem with surveys like this is they don’t measure the salience of an issue: for isntance, the war might be an issue for a voter that it might outweigh other issues (say a candidates, enviormental record or position on credit card companies’ practices).

  6. Lavoisier1794 says:

Wow, i stand corrected it does offer a choice on salience (however, high, medium, or low doesn’t offer much of a choice). Indeed, to some voters certain issues might have no salience.

    13. LaRouche, Lyndon H. Jr. – Democrat (-8%)

    Tyrone Power. Heh.

  8. elizabeth says:

…and Ang just got Carol Moseley-Braun as his top pick. Kucinich was #6. He’s fairly conservative for a Democrat, though.

    (Ang, I mean. Not Kucinich.)

  9. Time to separate the pretenders from the contenders?

2004 AMERICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE SELECTOR (via Chuck Kuffner) I’m a bit surprised at these results, but this is little more than an intellectual exercise, anyway: 1. Kerry, Senator John, MA – Democrat (100%) 2. Kucinich, Cong. Dennis, OH – Democrat…
