Jon Matthews update

This is the first update I’ve seen on radio talk show host Jon Matthews’ situation since the original story appeared.

RICHMOND — Radio talk show host Jon Matthews appeared before a Fort Bend County grand jury Tuesday less than a week after the Sugar Land Police Department completed an investigation concerning him.

Matthews, 59, was the subject of a criminal investigation launched by police after they received an allegation about Matthews. Police have not publicly discussed the nature of that allegation.

After Matthews left the grand jury room, neither he nor his attorney, Stephen Doggett, would comment on the case. He appeared before the panel for about 90 minutes.

Afterward, the grand jury took a break and then Matthews’ wife, Carolyn, spent about 40 minutes in the grand jury room.

Fort Bend County District Attorney John Healey said he could not discuss what happened during the hearing. Healey and four assistant prosecutors were in the room for most of Matthews’ appearance.

The Fort Bend County grand jury seals indictments when the defendant is not in custody, so it was not immediately known if the grand jury issued an indictment.

Marshall Slot, a Sugar Land officer who worked the case, also appeared before the grand jury Tuesday.

The investigation is centered on an allegation made recently by a community member, police spokeswoman Pat Whitty said two weeks ago.

The Houston Chronicle requested a copy of the police report under the Texas Public Information Act. Sugar Land city officials want to keep the report confidential and have asked the Texas attorney general for a ruling on the matter.

During the investigation, Matthews has been off the air.

One way or another, we should know more soon.

UPDATE: This is not a forum for discussing the fate of Jon Matthews. Please take that discussion elsewhere. Thank you.

What’s the latest on Jon? Anyone know?

  2. John says:

Does anyone know how much prison time Jon faces if he is convicted of being a child molestor?

  3. John says:

Matthews was the best thing on KSEV. Mike Richards always seemed a little slow-witted and Dan Patrick remains a goody two-shoes joke! John your still The King!

  4. Rod Serling says:

Here is how it goes for Dan Patrick, and the other ilk like Edd Hendee at KSEV.
Jon Matthews was getting very, very close to the truth. Ever since Dan Patrick got his KSEV and later KPRC, his lawyer has been the main advisor in the whole deal!

So, Jon Matthews was getting ever closer to the truth about things, especially the illegal
Activities in Fort Bend County, the Police Department, the schools, etc.

Therefore, Jon Matthews was either set-up with this so-called “exposing himself” and/or this “exposure” was just a way that Dan “the New Jesus” Patrick (Danny Scott Goeb) and God-Damn-It-I’m Edd Hendee Super Neo Con (Fascist) could oust Jon Matthews from KSEV and excommunicate him from the Republican Nationalist Socialist movement in AmeriKa!

I do not believe there will be any evidence to convict Jon. Jon will not talk because he knows the truth (and too much of it) to be convicted.

Danny Patrick and Edd are superb in further dumbing-down Christians, Texans and Americans with their propaganda.

KSEV has the worse “Air Polution!”
    Geeez….

  5. JD Phillips says:

Good Luck Jon. I know this is a very trying time in your life. You have a lot of supporters.

  6. Virginia says:

Thank you, Rod Serling, for what I had suspected all along. Jon was set up by somebody out for revenge. Jon’s life has been ruined and for what?God bless Jon.

  7. JC says:

Sad that Dan and followers put there trust in a book that was written to persuade a society to put there trust in the government. Women submit yourself to your husbands,, husbands submit yourself to the government. Anyone smell a rat here. Go and really learn the truth about the bible and those who wrote it.

go to religious fraud and read and let this truth become a reality for you….

    Footnote:
I ?thought? that I heard (from Dannie Scott Goeb aka Dan Patrick) that If Prez. Bu$h called-off the elections, that he (Dan-move-over-Jesus-I’m-taking-your-place) would support the taking-away of our Constutional Rights by allowing the Prez to postphone elections this year due to terrorism…..then again, I could always be wrong. Butt, Dan is always right.

Hey Rod, tune up that tin foil hat you have on your head and come out of the “Twilight Zone”.

  10. Rod Serling says:

    Groin,
Perhaps you should shed that tin foil over “your” head. Look at the military manual for control over you in, “Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars,” Operations Research Technical Manual TM-SW7905.1

Also, go to this web site to see what plans our government and military (Army Field Manuals) plan to control the citizens in the time of trouble…..

You tell me who controls who in the Twilight Zone! Perhaps your opinions are already formulated. You just think that you can reason logically.

No offense; but, these documents speak for themselves. Most of us are rats in a maze. Most of use who don’t know the “truth!”

  14. Dougie says:

Since Jon has left the air, it’s been pathetically easy to keep my finger from touching the AM 700 button on the car-radio panel. The station has always been a joke, and Jon was the lone buoy keeping it afloat. Mike Richards retired? Best thing he ever did for the radio waves, though I will miss his daily afternoon lullabies. Perhaps Dan will do us a similar favor…sell the station, run for political office under the “holier-than-thou, I make the Pope look like a porn-star” party, and move to Washington to torture his fellow hypocrites with his rantings. Can you tell I miss you Jon? Hang in there.

  15. Dan says:

Back when Jon would call Monica, Bill’s girlfreind “that young girl” I thought that he was just trying to put a political spin on the situation but now it seems that like most conservatives, he was jealous.

  16. Rod Serling says:

    Question?
I have heard Dannie Patrick on his substitution on the Regan Show that it would be a good thing if the Pres postphones the elections (?for 30 dayz?) due to terrorism.
Jon Matthews would be against it;however, the Nazi boyZ, Dan and Mr. Edd think it’s great.

    License checkpoints spring up
    March 22,2004
    Mark Lineberger
    Staff Writer

Spring is in the air, and with it comes April showers, May flowers, warm weather and N.C. Highway Patrol checkpoints.

A checkpoint Friday morning on Cunningham Road already netted several traffic violations, said Sgt. K.W. Cook.

“We found several driving with revoked licenses, a few other violations and I know there was one drunk driver,” Cook said.

Cook said that drunk drivers can be found on the roads at all times of the day and night, even in the mornings.

“Drunk drivers don’t really follow a schedule,” Cook said

  19. Stephen says:

Has ksev provided any updates on Jon since his departure? I didn’t think he was convicted of anything at this point, what would be the harm in updating Jon’s former listeners periodically with anything they might know?

  20. Rod Serling says:

No KSEV has not dony any updates…..
Dan Patrick is only conserned with Dan Patrick!

  21. Rod Serling says:

    Jon Matthews would ask?
If the president delayed the elections for 30, 60, 90 days or forever do to his 100 years fight over terrorism, would you do it and give up “your” rights, would you do it?

  22. Virginia says:

This web site is supposed to be about Jon Matthews updates. Could all the extraneous slop be stopped and just concentrate on Jon’s problems. Thank you…..

  23. Lisa says:

Jon-Good luck at your hearing on Monday 4/5/04. God Bless.

  24. Rod Serling says:

This extraneous slop is important with regards to Jon Matthew’s problem.
Perhaps not knowing the background is why most people are ignorant.

  25. Rod Serling says:

While Jon is off the air, let’s speculate the questions Jon would ask:

I agree with Virginia’s posting of 3/27 — let’s stay with the purpose of “Jon Matthews updates.” There are those who do not wish him well, but most of us continue our prayers for him and his family. Someone mentioned “the poor young girl” but failed to say – at least the last time I heard – that neither she nor her parents made the complaint .. indeed, had not shown up for any hearings, etc. Where is the accuser? And does it not seem strange to anyone that this has been dragging on for so long? I think “they” were out to damage Jon and shut him down —- they’ve done both, of course. Are they now just letting it die a slow death and eventually the matter dropped?
Jon & family: If you read this, know that there are many out here pulling for you all.
We love you. God’s blessings; He will give you strength.

  32. Kemp L. Jacks says:

Unless something has changed, Jon should be having pre-trial motions on Monday 4/5 at FBC courthouse. Please see my earlier postins for his case number and court number. Good Luck Jon. Your friends have not forgotten you and still believe in you.

“Julie The Massage Lady” is the nickname Jon gave me when I called in one day. What happened in court on Monday? I hope he will be on the air soon. I miss listening to him. I do still listen to KSEV, but I only listen to Laura Ingraham.

  35. Wesley says:

I just heard on the radio this morning that Jon was to go to court ?tomorrow?, but I don’t know what phase or motion of the process it will be for…meanwhile I’ve read through the postings and felt compelled to leave my full support for Jon. I pray for him and for his vindication, and hope that after all is said and done that he returns with a vengeance!
To those haters (and you know who you are) who’ve posted notes, I say that you only live life once…live it right. Are you afraid? Try another Spirit.

    Update on Jon:

At the pre-trial motions on Monday; the case was set to be tried on June 28, 2004 in Judge Brady Elliott’s court. Asst. DA Suzy Morton will prosecute the case. Jon is charged with indecency with a child by exposure ( no contact) which is a 3rd degree felony. If convicted; he could receive 2-10 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. Jon entered a plea of not guilty and is free on bond. So; now we have to wait 2 more months for something to happen. Hang in there Jon! We’re still behind you.

(4/07/04 – HOUSTON) — A former local radio talk show host now knows when he will stand trial.

Jon Matthews is accused of indecency with a child. He’s set to stand trial for that charge on June 28. Matthews is accused of exposing himself to a teenage girl last October.

The conservative talk show host resigned from KSEV. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

  42. Tony says:

I look forward to Jon being vindicated in this matter. I will be back as a listener to his program as soon as Dan Hires him back… he better if he wishes me and a few thousand to continue to listen to his Radio Station. Also Mr. Hendee is o.k. but I would rather Have Walt Cunninghams “Lift off to Logic” back on. Dan and Ed are fine but if I want Christian Radio there are 2 or 3 other channels I can listen to.

  43. Steve says:

I must agree with Tony (April 12th 2004) I too am looking forward to Jon being found innocent of this trumped up charge. I hope that Dan Patrick has the Decency to put Jon back on the air after all of this blows over. If you can read this Jon
I have been a listener since the Moby days. Good Luck buddy.

  44. Stephen says:

As a committed Christian, I must say I agree with you Tony. I find it somewhat disturbing that Dan (especially) chooses to regularly mix his ‘religion and politics’. I think he does the Christian faith a great disservice — the Cross should never be wrapped in the flag of ANY political party or ideology. Surely this practice turns people OFF to the faith. I believe Dan’s last whopper was that THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST was going to win GW the election??? give me a break.

It was for this reason that I found Jon’s reasoning and logic so powerful; he always came very prepared and well-studied, ready to take-on all-comers in healthy/fair debate without having to resort to the ‘religion card’.

Continued best wishes to you and your family Jon during this period — hoping to see you cleared of these charges.

  45. Rod Serling says:

If Jon Matthews was on the air what would he say about Bush’s comments on “…needing more troops?”
I guess we need a draft, and thus Senate Bill 89…”Ding Ding” The Draft……

  46. Tony says:

    Rod

As for Senate Bill 89 I have long said that every person unless they are in school should do at least 2 years in the Military, not for the war issues, but they teach self reliance, discipline, and team work. I’m not sure that Jon would agree with me on that or not. As far as Mr. Patrick is concerned I’m like W.C. Fields, I believe, that said religion is a great thing taken in small doses. In Defense of Mr. Patick and Mr. Hendee I do think that they are doing a nice job when it comes to C.L.O.U.T. and I know that Jon would support them in this matter. I just wish that there was a way to speed up the Trial and the eventual aquittal me Mr. Mathews

  47. Rod Sterling says:

Senate Bill 89 will insist that every young man and young woman will be conscripted into the military. No conscientious objectors. Those conscientious objectors will be
Enlisted in a work detail like picking up trash, clearing brush …..like the Brown Shirts in Germany like 1944…….the age group is 18-24/25…..I hear there is an amendment for ages 24/25 through 55…..

  48. Tony says:

The only thing that I insist on WHEN Jon comes back is that Dan let Him sing Happy Birthday…. even though it sounds like someone strangling 3 cats at the same time.. I really do miss Jon, Ed is ok but Jon was Great and has a totally warped sense of Humor ( like me )

  49. Joe Sanders says:

    Rod,

You speak in riddles. Are you for the draft or against it? I grew up with the draft and was drafted.

I think Jon would favor the draft as opposed to what we have now.

    Cheers, Joe

  50. Rod Serling says:

    Joe,
I don’t believe anyone will be for this draft…..have you read the complete bill?
I am told that there is an amendment. It, the amendment, will add ages 27 through 55.
President Bush did say that the War on Terrorism will take 100 years…..I am not for the draft. Neither are my neighbors who are Conservative (were conservative). I guess I can join the National Guard and not go or as the Senate Bill 89 states….

    http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c108:S.89:

    SEC. 8. CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTION.

    (a) CLAIMS AS CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTOR- Any person selected under this Act for induction into the uniformed services who claims, because of religious training and belief (as defined in section 6(j) of the Military Selective Service Act (50 U.S.C. 456(j))), exemption from combatant training included as part of that military service and whose claim is sustained under such procedures as the President may prescribe, shall, when inducted, participate in military service that does not include any combatant training component.

    (b) TRANSFER TO CIVILIAN SERVICE- Any such person whose claim is sustained may, at the discretion of the President, be transferred to a national service program for performance of such person’s national service obligation under this Act.
