Saturday video break: Alone

So I’ve been thinking about the Popdose Top 100 Covers list, and I knew I wanted to do something with it for the blog, but another set of Friday Random Ten lists didn’t seem to do it justice. Then I thought, hey, I’m not familiar with many of these songs, or versions of them, so why not try to learn more about them? Which led to the idea of combining that with the Saturday Video Breaks, and thus a new scheme was born. So let’s start right in with song #100, “Alone”. Here’s the original, by a group called I-Ten:

And here’s the cover, by Heart:

I confess, I had no idea Heart’s version was a cover. There are a few other entries like that on this list. Beyond that, they’re basically the same song, except I-Ten’s version is sung by a man. I don’t have a preference for either, they’re both good. What do you think?

I remember it being a big deal the Heart album that this was from involved a lot of outside writers.

If you go back and look, the Meet the Beatles album had one cover (“Till There Was You” from The Music Man) and the second album had five covers. It wasn’t till the third album A Hard Day’s Night that all the songs were Lennon/McCartney compositions.
