Only 25 more shopping days until hurricane season begins.

I overshare, you overshare, we overshare.

I can buy Pudge Rodriguez as one of the five best catchers in baseball history. But surely we know better than to use batting average as a point of comparison, right? Especially when Gary Carter and Carlton Fisk both have a higher on base percentage than I-Rod did, as well as a higher OPS+ from playing in a tougher offensive environment. You should know better than that, Allen Barra.

Using gold as currency is not so easy to do, and you’ll likely get stiffed in the exchange. Don’t tell Glenn Beck.

“We have been studying Washington politics and Congress for more than 40 years, and never have we seen them this dysfunctional. In our past writings, we have criticized both parties when we believed it was warranted. Today, however, we have no choice but to acknowledge that the core of the problem lies with the Republican Party.”

Paul Ryan is a massive hypocritical fraud. There’s more to it than that, but I just summed up that long article for you.

It shouldn’t be this difficult for women to get birth control prescriptions. Of course, requiring the prescription in the first place is a big part of the problem.

The human element is just an excessive tolerance for error.

I don’t have an opinion on whether or not Mickey Mantle’s restaurant should be saved or not. But I do have an opinion about Jane Leavy’s outstanding biography of The Mick, and that’s that you should read it.

“The biggest deterrent to an energy plan in America is Koch Industries”. So says T. Boone Pickens.

“Romney seems to have forgotten that the firefighters he came face-to-face with are one category of Americans whose economic pain he’s supposed to be in favor of.”

If this is the end of the line for Mariano Rivera…I can’t even finish that sentence. Get better soon, Mo, whatever comes next.

“What does “evangelical” mean? In America, in 2012, it means this: A white Protestant who opposes abortion and homosexuality.”

  1. Glenn Beck has never said to use gold as currency. He clearly informs listeners that Gold is an investment, and his preference is to buy gold instead of putting his money in the stock market.

Look into history of the Weimar Republic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weimar_Republic), and it shows why Glenn is doing his investments that way. With the government monetizing the debt, and printing more money, a depression, along with Weimar-like hyperinflation is a real possibility. At the point that happens, most stocks will be worth zero. Only those with precious metals will have their finances secure.
