Baseball Day

This is an idea I can get behind: Make baseball’s Opening Day a national holiday. It’s especially appealing for those of us who get no holidays between New Year’s and Memorial Day – we could use something to break the long dry spell. Via Kos.

    If Opening *day* is going to be a holiday, then MLB needs to make all the opening games day games. If they are to be night games, for most working stiffs I think the day *after* Opening Day is a better choice for a day off.

    And none of this business of having games outside the country before the real opening day. That’s just wrong.

    However, if we’re going to send the Yankees and Devil Rays overseas, can we make sure they don’t come back? I think baseball would be quite fine without either.

    A better idea than the Devil Rays and Yankees not coming back is the relegation system used in most sports leagues outside the USA. The Devil Rays would be in the Florida State League, the Mets would be the third NYC team in the New York-Penn League, and the Tigers would be in last place in Chuck’s Little League. 😉
