Penny Shaw
Most of the candidates who are running in the HD148 special election are first time candidates. One who is not is Penny Shaw, who ran a strong race in 2018 for County Commissioner in Precinct 3, the most Republican precinct of the four. She didn’t win that race, but she has served in the office of Commissioner Adrian Garcia since, working as the Deputy Chief for Policy and Legal Affairs, a job that included working with the Lege. Shaw is an attorney who has also served as a Congressional advocate, working on bills like the International Violence Against Women Act, and she is a member of the League of Women Voters. I’m voting for Penny. She is the only candidate in this race with ACTUAL experience at the legislature… and not as a intern.
Penny is the most qualified candidate in this race. She is also the only candidate who has run for office before, having received over 156,000 votes for County Commissioner Precinct 4 against Jack Cagle, losing by only 9% in a surprisingly close race in the most Republican precinct.
