Learning binary the Socratic way

Via Greg, a fascinating lesson on learning binary numbers using the Socratic method. Given the results achieved, if everyone had learned the new math that way, we might have a much lower rate of innumeracy in the world.

    Nice double: binary math and Tom Lehrer in the same post.

    I’ve said for years that I’ve only needed to know two numbers. It’s how I use them that’s important.

    Between that and the ability to calculate a pitcher’s ERA, I consider myself quite “nummerate”. 🙂

    Very cool. Im in grade 12 and these kids are making me feel like an idiot. I have looked at binary couple times before coming across your lesson and could never grasp it but after reading your artcle there im understanding it more… Thanks
