RIP, Reggie White

This is a shock.

Reggie White, a fearsome defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers who was one of the great players in NFL history, died Sunday, his wife said. He was 43. The cause of death was not immediately known.

They said it was a heart attack on the NFL pregame show on CBS this morning, but whatever it was, he was far too young. My condolences to his family.

I heard the new on Fox’s NFL pre-game show in Philadelphia, and although I live in New York (where LT could do no wrong), I appreciated the effort Reggie White put out week after week with the Eagles (and with Memphis of the USFL before that). With him, there was no question that he practiced what he preached (although there was one moment of controversy), and that he was well respected on and off the football field.

    He will be missed.

It’s sorry to see anyone die so young, and my sympathies are with his family, but his politics were quite homophobic and racially insensitive to put it mildly.
