The Trans Texas Corridor

Very interesting article on the Trans Texas Corridor, the $183 billion network of toll roads, railroad tracks, and pipelines, and the transportation geek who actually looked at the details and figured out it’s mostly a crock. We could use a few more people like Erik Slotboom to check these things out. Thanks to Ellen for the tip.

It’s a fifty year plan. Erik Slotboom has added to the conversation, but another part of the conversation is today’s numbers might well not be the numbers in fifty years’ time! In other words, I would hesitate to say that Slotboom’s voice is the end of the conversation, or that it should be.

I read about this thing in either Time or Newsweek within the past two weeks. From that article it sounded like an even bigger boondoggle than Boston’s Big Dig.

Having grown up in Texas and having lived in New Mexico for the last 33 years, I must say this sounds awfully close to some other proposals by the Bush/Perry/DeLay Axis like the 2000 and 2004 elections and social security is in trouble. When are you idiots going to get it?
