Kos complains about the number of unsolicited catalogs he gets, and shares a solution to the problem:
Enter Catalog Choice, a project endorsed by the NRDC and the National Wildlife Council to help stem this wasteful practice.
You enter your personal information, check off the catalogs you receive from a list, and they contact those merchants and ask that they stop sending you their crap. And the real impact of participating and spreading the word could be huge:
The production and disposal of direct mail alone consumes more energy than 3 million cars.
Over eight million tons of trees are consumed each year in the production of paper catalogs.
Disgusting for a “product” that few people ask for, and even fewer need.
Amen. Years ago, I bought flowers through a national florist. I started receiving their catalog after that, four times a year, even though I only used them maybe three times total. As is often the case, I eventually started getting multiple copies, thanks to a misspelling of my name on one order. It took forever, and multiple calls, to get them to stop. I’m so totally doing this.
Thanks, Chuck. Looks like a great service!
