When it rains…

…it can take an hour and a half for what should be at most a 30-minute commute home. sigh. All things considered, though, I’ve got nothing to complain about. I just hope the predictions of more heavy rain tomorrow are inaccurate. Click on the “Chronicle staff photo gallery” link for the full effect.

    couple interesting thoughts:
    – the proposed drainage fee will be used to replace old storm pipes with new and larger pipes. in the process, streets will have to reconstructed. new and larger pipes and new streets will likely increase downstream flooding
    – existing churches and businesses will pay disproportionate drainage fees vs. new development.
    – the real kicker is that the drainage fee more likely have little effect on flooding. instead frequency of floods will increase and the amount we pay for home and flood insuracen will increase as well.
    – lastly, the new fema maps will likely show higher flood elevations. some folks that were out of the flood plain might have to purchase flood insurance in excess of $1 thousand per year.
    talking about economics of flooding.

Only an hour and a half? Try six hours for a half-hour commute.

I guess I shouldn’t complain about it taking me 1.5 hours to go 2 miles then.
