Milestone achieved

I agree with Kevin: the fact that we have a story about blogs and blogging that isn’t about the phenomenon of blogging – in particular, which doesn’t make a point of noting that “blog” is “short for ‘weblog'” – is a milestone. I knew having Michael Kinsley run the LA Times’ editorial page was a good thing, I just never realized it was that good.

Read Kinsley’s commentary in the same edition. Also read Rick Perlstein’s column there. Kinsley advocates the taking back of the word liberal; Perlstein advocates using the same wedge tactics the Republicans use on us against them.

Kinsley is a good editor with momentary flashes of brilliance (he’s a much better editor than writer, to be honest).

However, before everyone wee wees all over themselves about one item, you might also consider this piece that ran a week ago:

    http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/commentary/la-oe-jones18jul18,0,5710056.story?coll=la-news-comment-opinions

Letting old school journalist types explain that blogging isn’t journalism (duh!) isn’t exactly the most imaginative thing in the world.

But that piece doesn’t recap what blogs are either, so maybe Drum should have been reading the LA Times a week ago?
