National Night Out

Olivia and I attended National Night Out last night – NNO is always a big deal in our neighborhood. (Tiffany is taking a Tuesday night Pilates class, in case you were wondering.) Thankfully, there are no kleptomaniac cats – that I know of, anyway – in our area (read the Chron story, you’ll understand). Anyone else attend NNO festivities? Anyone else know it was NNO last night?

  1. I knew, but I sent out Nardocat to patrol the neighborhood.

He caught three burglars and a terrorist.

  2. Sue says:

We had a block party last night. One of the recurring topics was the idea that whoever decided NNO had to be in August must never have lived in Texas.

  3. Patrick says:

My wife went to our NNO gathering in the park with our dog.

Alas our dog did not have the crime fighting success of Mr. Simon’s Nardocat, but she did patiently withstand the jabbing fingers of 2 year olds wanting to point out various doggie body parts like ears, eyes, and nose. Thankfully, they didn’t get an opportunity to point at Cocoa’s teeth.

  4. Tim says:

I would suggest that they replace NNO with “Regional Nights Out” with dates based on local weather. The founders of the day are from Pennsylvania, so the dog days of summer may be a little more appropriate.

For those of us in the hotter, more humid southern climates, I would propose the first week after Daylight Savings Time begins, or the week before it ends.

  5. William Hughes says:

I had heard about this in passing, but in NYC, the police precincts coordinate the events, and they’re geared more for kids and families. Since I’m neither, I stayed home.

  6. Matt says:

My Grandpa is a block coordinator so there is always a modest party and at Capital Metro in Austin we always do some outreach on NNO. Any excuse to have a party.

  7. Kerry says:

I would have loved to have taken the rugrat to the NNAC, but it’s August, an Orange+ ozone day and we’re in Texas. It’s insane to have it now. April. How about April?
