It’s Just A Game

Did you know that Charles Shulz drew a second comic strip in the 1950s, before “Peanuts” really took off? I didn’t. The strip was a one-panel, three-day-a-week affair called “It’s Just A Game”, and it featured something you never saw in “Peanuts”: grownups. Mark Evanier has the details.

  1. Greg Morrow says:

I have the book, published by Nat Gertler’s About Comics, and it’s primarily a curiosity–mildly interesting, but not overly so, and important only to Schulzophiles.

And it’s not entirely true that you never saw grownups in Peanuts. Complete Peanuts 1953-1954 features a Sunday continuity of Lucy competing in a golf tournament with a variety of visible grownups. There are other grownups in a few isolated strips as well, but only in the early days.
