Eight for District B

I don’t know a whole lot about the candidates in the race to replace term-limited Carole Mims Galloway in City Council District B this year, but since there’s not likely to be much more news coverage on that race than this story, you’d best read it if you live there. You can also read the (60 words or less) candidate responses to the questions in the LVW Voters’ Guide, though unfortunately Felicia Galloway-Hall, daughter of incumbent Galloway and one of the apparent frontrunners in the race, did not respond in time. I don’t really have much to add to this – if you know more about these candidates, please leave a comment.

  1. Tom Bazan says:

I have known Willie Hunter for over 21 years, and can say he is an outstanding individual with exemplary character.

Besides working in the city bureaucracy for about 30 years, he was the part-time preacher at a fledgling non-denominal church a decade back.

He can hit the ground running, and should be able to help improve the quality of life in District B.

  2. Deidre Rasheed says:

I think it is time for a leader who has proven track record. My vote is for Jarvis Johnson.

  3. James Southerland says:

Felicia Galloway Hall has been more in contact with the “whole district” than any other candidate in the race. 500 families in District B are about to lose thier homes and Felicia Galloway Hall appears to be the only one interested. Last two times I called Willie Hunter, he said he was busy and would call back later, that was six month ago.

  4. Steven Valle says:

I would think that some one like Mr. Jarvis Johnson who is running a program for the community. And in the community, such as Dare Plus would be more in tune to the needs of the people.

The communities that need the help must get help from with in.And someone with the youth and also the wisdom of the forfathers before them.

Please look closely at Mr. Jarvis Johnson.

It is a complete package at hand.

    Thanks

    S.V.

  5. Camilla Ortiz-Rincon says:

I don’t know where Steven Valle and Dierdre Rasheed have been living for the last 6 years but it apparently has not Houston and it certainly is not District B.

As a District B native though not very old, I think the only logical choice for the district B Spot is Felicia Galloway Hall. Besides what Bud Johnson stated in the African American News and Issues news paper on Tuesday November 2, 2005…

    Let me tell you why:

Jarvis Johnson has been investigated by Wayne Dolcefino in a feature last year. I do not remember the specifics about it but I do remember Mr. Dolcefino stating that the Phoenix Out reach Program was audited by the City of Houston Controllers office. The especially troubling fact about Mr. Dolcefino’s broadcast is that Phoenix Outreach Center and Mr. Johnson is exploiting latino children and families by using their names as participants in his program. I googled “Phoenix Outreach Controllers Audit” and got a full copy of the audit. The findings of Controller Parker’s report seem to clearly implicate Phoenix Outreach for governmental fraud and state that the findings will be referred to the District Attorney.

Second, remember in 2003 when there was a story about the federally funded program called D.A.R.E. that was run out of Dogan Elementary in Fifth Ward and how the program operators were spending your tax dollars on classic children’s movies like Pulp Fiction et al; and on Ralph Lauren bed spreads and sheets. If my memory has not failed me, Johnson, former City Councilman Michael “Mr. Indictment” Yarborough and Randy “Show Me the After School Money” Bostic were in charge of that program which, according to Mr. Dolcefino’s report has also been referred to the District Attorney.

Three, Mr. Willie Hunter, a public works and engineering employee was accused during a Houston City Council Session by a senior and former Houston educator (this very year) of selling her a stolen tree. This frail north Houston senior was so concerned by this transaction that she brought the 9 foot tall sapling to the council chambers to return it to the Mayor and City Council (see City Council meeting minutes (www.houstontx.gov)).

And Tommie Allen cares so little about the Texas laws regarding Ethics that her campaign Finance report has numerous and salient errors, some of which are related to acceptance of Corporate Checks! For those of you who have been sleeping during the news of late, office holders and candidates in the State of Texas are forbidden by law from accepting corporate checks . This one of the main reasons our great majority leader, Tom Delay has recently been indicted. She appears to not be ready for the very weighty responsibility of holding office.

I don’t know of anyone else in the race.

Oh but I do suspect that Tom Bazan is supporting Jarvis Johnson is because Mr. Bazan ran against Sheila Jackson Lee and lost and he has heard (the rumor?) that Sheila has endorsed Galloway-Hall. Tisk Tisk Tisk…Bad Sportsmanship.

  6. Barbara Eaglin says:

As a resident of District B I have not heard from any of these candidates! So truly most of the constitutes in this District cannot really said we have heard their side of the current issues involving District B!

  7. Monique says:

I see in District B it is dirty polictics as usual one person is off the issues and on to an attack of a personal kind. I am voting for Jarvis Johnson. District B looks terrible next to other districts we get nothing to sentence my self to six more years of the same is to sentence myself to hell. I am tired of blacks attacking blacks and noone pushing for a true change. So save your comments and GOSSIP to yourself and stick to the issues. Jarvis Johnson that is the candidate I’m voting for not the one who constantly employs the smere campaign and mama’s name in order to get votes but I guess desperate times call for desperate crimes and we all know slander is not new to politics.

So keep on throwing the lies around because we all know you can’t win just on the issues, and make sure to bring auntie Doris and mama everywhere because I don’t think that we can handle anymore session of your aimless blunders.

  8. Deidre says:

Now you what they say about throwing stones and living in glass houses. Mrs. Gallaway Halll does not live in the district wither though all of her mail does go to mommies house so let’s not statrt that I think it is far more important that the candidate running for office live in the district them someone on the web.

  9. Nicole says:

How can anyone believe what Wayne says? He convults truths into lies. Jarvis Johnson nor Phoenix has ever exploited latino children or any children. “Let’s play 21 questions, I’ll ask you very specifically if you know this person and if you so no, I’ll put you on tv.” Come on Camilla, you sound too intelligent to believe ANYTHING Wayne publishs. As for the audit, ultimately there were no charges brought forth by the DA nor did money have to be returned. As for the DARE program, the story reported the school NOT DARE bought inappropriate items. And again NO CHARGES, no wrong doing on the part of Jarvis Johnson.

Tell me Camilla, since you google everyone, have you googled Felicia. What has she done? What platform can she stand on? Where’s her work in the community? Why is her criminal record sealed? Might she have something to hide? Where is her husband? Might she have something else to hide? Why is her mother’s record sealed? Where was she when she lived outside the City? and why? Who has dead people voting in elections? People who live outside the district?

Again, come on…you seem way too intelligent to pass such information. Especially, of information you only “suspect”, like Tom Bazan. Didn’t you read the post of 10/18, he supported Willie Hunter…

BTW, Sheila has not endorsed FGH, another one of their lies…tisk tisk tisk…bad sportsmanship or just another low down dirty lie?

  10. COR says:

    Santa Maria! Nicole:

I am pleased you think I appear to be intelligent. Let us hope everyone within view of this written exchange is as well.

First, that was only 13 questions.

Second, I don’t believe anything anyone presents to me prima facie, especially when the parties who state something as fact are not identified and do not provide fact evidence to support the allegations made.

Third, to show that I am not as some of you have insinuated (an operative of any of the respective contestants) I have asked my cousin (who will remain nameless) who works at the Harris County Criminal Courthouse to check the following “rumors” you have been tossing about as “fact”.

To give you an idea of how credible “mi primo” is as a resource on “sealed” or “expunged” records, some of you may remember the expunged record of a certain aide to District H Gabriel Vasquez council man that came up when Gabriel angered the Honorable Padrino Senator Gallegos in 1999 or 2000 ( I can’t remember which) The hope of retrieving the record was to make a connection between the aide’s sex related charge and the fact that he marked on the arrest record that he lived at the same address as the Vasquez – you see the conclusion they were drawing.

Many of you are obviously not aware that an expunged or sealed record is like a deleted computer hard drive – it can always be retrieved by the right parties. My cuz assures me there are no records of a “sealed” record on the female candidate in this race or that candidates mother and upon Googling the candidate’s candidate questionnaire responses, her divorced husband is in Europe in the military – My dad was in the Marines -THE FACT IS it is impossible to have a criminal record in the military without a subsequent and or precedent military court marshal. And it appears Felicia Galloway-Hall has been an American Federation of Federal Employees Member for over 14 years, according to her literature – THE FACT IS federal employees cannot have criminal records, so that is false.

Oh, and I haven’t forgotten about your complete disregard for the personal teary eyed testimony of the Latinas and their ninas as they stated one after the other during that Wayne Dolcefino report that they had never been to Phoenix Outreach and did not allow their names to be used on attendance records that were apparently falsified by principals of the Phoenix Outreach. Say what you will about Wayne Dolcefino or channel 13 for that matter but you are causing my blood to boil when you chose to call Hispanic mothers and their children liars when they have been victimized by a program director who seeks to exploit the less fortunate.

And… Mr. Johnson’s response to the DARE plus allegations was in essence it is OK to buy Ralph Lauren bedding, rated R videos and hire criminals as part of the program paid for with yours and my tax dollars. Que fuey?!?!!!!

So Chica, my Harris County courthouse cuz refutes all of your allegations masquerading as rhetorical questions and provides me with an alarming but enlightening fact-based jpeg he received from an anonymous sender that I would like to share with you all,

but only if you can keep a secret. .

district b race is really heating up – the mud is being slung on a blog site hosted by a local fox reporter. you may want to check it out and sound in on it for your candidate.

  12. Nicky says:

I got a chance to check out the info on http://www.isiahcarey.blogspot.com. It’s a good site. It clears up misconceptions. For instance the one that the Ms. Galloway-Hall doesn’t live in the district she is running in. Sorry Johnson Campaign supporters, the site gives factual info. Ms. Galloway-Hall is a tax paying resident in district B.
Also on the Wayne D info. I saw the segement about Phoenix Outreach. It was pretty interesting. I am really not a fan of Wayne because he picks on Black and Latinos in prominent positions and he reports information to appear to be more damaging than it actaully is. But let’s be real there was some dishonesty with the Phoenix Outreach Center. Wayne can get on TV and outright lie. I am curious if he will run the segement again or do some type of follow-up just since he knows Mr. Johnson is in the runoff. You know that’s how he plays. Remember Mr. Turner. He should have been our mayor. Okay I digressed.
District B voters don’t forget to exercise your right to vote in the run-off. I hope you voted in the first election, if not you can’t vote in the runoff.
    Peace!

  13. Deidre Rasheed says:

It never ceases to amaze me how low political campaigns will reach; I Deidre Rasheed did not write any comment about Mrs. GALLOWAY-HALL but I see that it does not take much for people to expose there true character. Don’t act like breaking a vow is new for you, you do it to well for that. If your candidate is truly that strong then why don’t you try winning this race on the issues. With 64% of the district voting against your candidate. I would hardly start handing out victory speaches.

  14. Nicky says:

Sorry, Ms. Rasheed my response was not directed to you. It was directed to the Deidre he wrote the below comment:
“Now you what they say about throwing stones and living in glass houses. Mrs. Gallaway Halll does not live in the district wither though all of her mail does go to mommies house so let’s not statrt that I think it is far more important that the candidate running for office live in the district them someone on the web.”

No one is giving out victory speeches yet. That would be very unwise considering the money Mr. Johnson’s campaign has and the celebrity like support he has garnered. My vote in the original election was for neither of the two candidates in the run-off. I did not think it was a good idea to vote for someone who pretty much says vote for me cause I am “kinfolk”, like Ms.Galloway-Hall. But nor was my vote for someone who lacks integrity, like Mr. Johnson.

    Peace!
