One Response to Memorial Day observances

  1. Burt Levine says:

    FORT BEND SALUTES AMERICA
MEMORIAL DAY this upcoming Monday May 29, 2006 we will be holding our Fourth Fort Bend Salutes America, county-wide ceremony in Sugar Land, the second year in a row on the steps of Sugar Land City Hall in the Sugar Land Town Square at 2700 Town Center Boulevard to collectively as a community and a county salute the countless men and women of America’s Armed Forces that paid the ultimate sacrifice for us to breathe free. This FOURTH Memorial Day service – “Fort Bend Salutes America” will begin at 10 am. The ceremony will be memorable for all ages for all Fort Bend families featuring passionate prayers from many different faith leaders, 21-one gun and cannon salutes, a scheduled fly-over from the Texas Air National Guard’s 147th Fighter Wing, patriotic music from local artists, paying respect to local Gold Star Parents that lost children in recent conflicts and readings of the names of all those from the area that have been killed in military combat, local boy and girl scout troops leading a parade of Texas and American flags, wreath laying ceremonies, seniors from the “Greatest Generation” and those that followed with sacrifice in World War II, Korea and Vietnam and now serve our community in the VFW, American Legion and other veteran’s service organizations, the Sugar Land Rotary and the Sugar Land Exchange Clubs, live and local music, local food vendors for family picnicking and fun filled activities from moon bounces to face painting and balloons for children will follow. The event will feature participation honoring local police and fire safety professionals. Many communities across our country will hold services Memorial Day as they’ve have done since Memorial Day began in the 1800s to salute the sacrifices of local heroes that paid the ultimate price for defense of our country and their communities. Our country is at war and we must never forget our country’s heroes. Because of your patriotism in our community, Burt Levine and I personally invite you with your family to join our FOURTH “ Fort Bend Salutes America” and thank you for caring about our country and our county. May God continue to Bless you and your family. Please call me with your questions, concerns and ideas.

    Sincerely,

Troy E. Nehls, Fort Bend County Constable
