Saturday video break: The other way to cover an iconic tune

In addition to doing it in your own style, the other way to kill on a cover song is, well, to just kill it. Like how Cathy Richardson channels Grace Slick in her rendition of “White Rabbit”:

Richardson is touring with whatever they’re calling Jefferson Starship these days, so technically this isn’t a cover, in the same way that Sammy Hagar singing “Everybody Wants Some” while with Van Halen wouldn’t be, but you get the idea. What I really wanted to show you was her knockout “Someone To Love”, but it has embedding disabled. So go click over and see it, and you’ll see what I mean. Then when you’re done, go see a completely different side of Ms. Richardson, yet still a rocking one. That’s versatility. Thanks to Popdose for the find.

She really sounds like Grace on “Somebody to Love.” I’m impressed.

They come to the Houston area on 8/13 at the Stafford Centre. It’s basically Mickey Thomas (the male singer from the “built this city” era and a lot of subs.

This band is JEFFERSON Starship, and it has Paul Kantner and some other links to the original San Francisco psychedelic era. Your Houston show is billed as just STARSHIP, which is a whole other thing (although they do have common roots).
