What’s on your utility belt?

Jay Lee lists his Top Ten Indispensible Computer Utilities. It’s a rather sad statement on current affairs that the first five are anti-virus and spyware tools, but there you have it. I need to check a few of these things out. Take a look and see what you might need for yourself.

    Kuff, Lee’s list is a pretty good one!

    I would add one thing to it, Trend Micro AntiSpyware. It has a catcher called Venus FlyTrap, it has a **great** Blacklist/Whitelist function, it has a full set of cleaning devices including a cookie cleaner that allows you to add a remove cookies on a permanent clean-up list, and it also incorporates CWW Shredder.

    There is a 30 day free trial at the Trend Micro site, and the full scan function with whatever blacklist you’ve built up remains operational even after the trial has run out.

    Dwight – My list is a pretty short one: the anti-spyware tools Jay mentioned, my CD and DVD burners (Roxio and Nero) for backups and mailing pictures/movies to relatives, and FTP Explorer for the easiest uploading and downloading experience I’ve ever had.

    Except most of those aren’t “utilities,” which is the point of the meme. You’re listing mostly apps. Utilities are tools designed to tweak or maintain your PC or other programs.

    Then I got nuthin’. I actually don’t do a whole lot of tweaking and maintaining beyond the not-nearly-often-enough data backup and semi-regular Windows updates. I waste my time blogging instead. 🙂
