ULI Mayoral candidate forum report

As I am not a member of the Urban Land Institute of Houston, I did not get an invitation to their members-only Mayoral candidate forum on Thursday, which got a brief mention in the Chron on Friday. Fortunately, Andrew Burleson is a member, and he was there. He’s got a detailed report of the proceedings, which I highly recommend. Check it out.

  1. Baby Snooks says:

They forgot to ask how they will handle the expected lawsuit with regard to 1717 Bissonnet which no doubt will become one of Bill White’s legacies although quite a few wish the developers would just put in a strip mall with a massage parlor and a porno video arcade just to irritate the “hoi-polloi” in Southampton and Boulevard Oaks.

They all at least appear to realize the need to expand rail to better serve everyone. There really is no reason for Houston not to have a viable rail line although so far the planning seems to have been tied into serving the needs of developers rather than the needs of the public. It’s a shame the Metro board doesn’t have the same sense.

Much will depend on who endorses who. Lanier and Brown are expected to endorse Locke. White is expected to play the “non-partisan” game and not endorse anyone. Lest he irritate everyone and make enemies he cannot afford to make if he makes a run for something else.
