How not to remember the Alamo

There are times when I do feel sorry for headline writers who struggle to avoid reaching into the Big Bag of Cliches to title certain types of news stories. This is one of those times.

Police arrested a couple they said were having sex at the Alamo on Sunday afternoon.

Kristine Nissel, 18, and Matthew Hotard, 19, were both naked from the waist down when an Alamo security officer caught them having sexual intercourse near a public viewing area, a police report said.

Several tourists saw the couple and were upset, the report said.

Both are active-duty members of the 232nd Medical Battalion and stationed at Fort Sam Houston.

Police arrested the two just before 5:30 p.m. Each was charged with public lewdness. Bond for each was set at $800.

All across the nation, nighttime news anchors are giggling and coming up with variations on “Remember the Alamo”.

First Ozzy Osbourne, and now this.

And don’t forget PeeWee’s disappointing failure to locate a basement. A trip to the Alamo is always bad luck, any way you look at it.

Not to mention the whole business of hearing about it and getting there, only to find out it’s so small! I’d been warned that it wouldn’t be as large as I expected, but I still couldn’t help but wonder where the rest of it was when we made our trek there last year.

I used to hang out with some of these folks when I was in Austin, and they were on leave.

I kinda picked up that there was some hanky-panky goin’ on between some of the troops, but my good friend (lets call him J.U.) is about as clean-cut and professional as they get.

Kids today just never learn to spell. It’s a public viewing area. Public!

Michael, are you the one who was always removing an “L” from the sign over at the U.T. School of Public Health?

Public Heath? I don’t get it, unless everyone is sharing a candy bar…

I know PFC Nissel and watched her get arrested. Trust me they weren’t as out in the open as the paper made it out to be. And the alamo police found them while they were locking up. No tourists saw the incident which was more heavy petting than anything. I couldn’t believe this made national news.
